Does anyone else find it ironic that the Art&Creative board looks so bad compared to normal boards? Light orange on light grey is not very good for readability, and all the CSS hover effects are annoying, especially the one that makes the date of a post practically invisible unless you move the cursor over it.

I made it orange because gray+crimson looked too serious to me, plus orange has a psychological effect that promotes you to act (i.e. do something rather than complain about how hard art is). On my screen it's not difficult to see at all, it's hard to accommodate for different monitors sometimes, especially cheap ones. I'll try making it darker when I get the chance.

The background is gray because it's not biased towards any temperature, so it's best to put art on. That's why photoshop is 100% gray aside the color sliders and such.

The date/filename info is a secondary extra pile of info on every single post, 99% of the time it's completely irrelevant so making it less visible improves readability of the board/posts.
Since the vast majority of the time you probably don't want to read it, I find it a lesser harm to make you hover over it when you do.

If you have any other improvement suggestions, feel free to post them.

The normal colour scheme (the one everyone is used to) for links/background is blue on white, which has a stronger contrast than orange on grey. I understand the logic behind making the background grey, but then you should make sure that the text still pops out.

Also, if you're going to hide anything that's not usually useful, you might as well hide the name and post number as well, since most of the time they're irrelevant...

However I think it's a bad idea to hide anything at all, because:

1. it's not strictly needed, it doesn't add anything in terms of usability and I doubt most people found that "extra" information distracting in the first place (in my 6 years on 4chan I've never heard anyone complain about it)

2. it gets annoying to have to hover over the date any time I want to see how old a post is, especially since this is the only board I visit where this happens

Basically I think it would have been best to stay as close as possible to the default theme, and only deviate from it where it really makes sense. At the moment I feel as though we're trying too hard to be the artsy board, and trying to fix something that isn't broken.

Name is important when someone uses a name (which happens pretty often in draw threads), and post number is important to read replies. I tried to hide the post number, and it became harder to understand who was replying to who. But I see the post date as a much more special situation.

The visibility is not really something to complain about, but there's a lot of design related things that most people just don't think about because they don't know about it. It's similar to art composition, beginners may not be able to tell it's (or why it is) fucked up, but an experienced artist will be able to see more and improve it a ton just by moving things around a bit and adding an element or two.

I understand what you're saying, but personally I find the ancient yotsuba theme really rather ugly. And I don't subscribe to the whole "don't fix what isn't broken" idea, because I would rather improve what can be improved. Most of the complaints in that regard just come from the fact that people don't like change, and don't want to press a button to revert it.

That said, I do acknowledge some things are more a preference than a direct "improvement".

If more people complain about it, I'll remove it. But you can always select another theme from the bottom right if it bothers too much. Or optionally put this into your custom CSS:
div.post *,.thread *{opacity:1!important;}

I made the orange darker, hope that helps in that regard.

I like the colors, gray is easy on the eyes. I agree that the hover stuff feels weird though.

I disagree, Op.
I think it's one of the best styles
