I apologize in advance for making a whole new thread for this, but even the basic threads are far beyond my level. First thing I'd like to know: can some people just not learn art? I'd like to know how to draw, but I'm trash. When I say I'm trash, I mean I have problems even drawing basic shapes, I know no art terms or techniques at all, and even kindergarten-level arts and crafts would take me a little while and wouldn't be as good as the kindergarten kids. Am I just not able to learn art, is it something I need to be born with?

Secondly, is it normal for people to start with this sort of level? I mean, like I said, I can't even draw basic shapes. A stickman is about the extent of my abilities, and I've frankly not tried to draw since I was so little I barely have memories from that time (and even then I didn't draw much). Again, sorry for making the thread, but I'm such a massive faggot that even the fundamentals are beyond me.

tl;dr: suck so bad at art I can't do basic shapes or kiddie arts and crafts, can and how do I learn

Well it seems your problem is that you don't know how to stroke and hold a pencil. I've see hundreds of youtube videos on that so that's were i would begin.

I'm terrible at drawing on paper, but if I have a tablet and a program I know how to use like Photoshop then I get much better.

Being able to use levels, undoing and redoing and erasing easily is much better imho.

I'm an absolute beginner too, but I've done a few things that managed to look like what I was trying to draw

I'm glad that you posted here. Anyone can learn art, though as with anything some may have an easier time with it than others. It's certainly not something you need to be "born with", though. Don't fall into the trap of worrying about talent.

I am a little concerned by your claim that you can't draw basic shapes. Are you unable to draw things like triangles, squares, and circles at all? Do you just mean that they aren't perfect? Examples would be nice, if you would like to share them.

In any case, the book I recommend for an absolute beginner is You Can Draw in 30 Days by Mark Kistler. It won't turn you into a master artist by any means, but it gave me the starting point I needed when other beginner books felt too complicated.

The most important thing, whether you try learning from a resource or not, is to practice. Get into the habit of drawing every day, even if it's just for a few moments some days. Have fun, believe in yourself, and don't give up! Like most skills, learning art takes a long time, so don't be discouraged if progress seems slow. You'll get the hang of it eventually as long as you keep trying.

You can do it!

I'm a beginner as well, I just started a few weeks ago. In the beginning I couldn't even draw cubes properly, then I read a few books and saw a few videos and now I'm somewhat good at simple 3D shapes. It doesn't matter if you are complete shit, if you have enough free time you can do virtually anything so stop being a faggot and learn shit anon!

See a few sycra videos like

read books like "perspective made easy" and draw shit daily.

Thanks (all of you) for the replies, and when I say I can't draw basic shapes I think I've figured out what my problems are. The lines that make them. Of course, people always tell me "Well, I can't draw straight lines either!" but I have problems drawing ANY lines. Curved lines, out of place and my curvature is off. Straight lines don't come out mostly straight with a little curvature, they come out almost squiggly. I've already been reading sticky resources and all that, as well as looking at some basics, working on making sure I see things as fundamentals and shapes now rather than seeing every single thing as some strange, unique shape that I can't draw. I don't have any examples, but a good way to think of it is like someone teaching a class, they do a basic drawing a line or two at a time. By the time I would finally get done copying the drawing line by line, it'd be all wonky and out-of-shape due to my lines being wrong. I have tons of free time, and I'm willing to work on it, but I don't want to waste time if I won't improve, hence why I want to start at a place that I should work on. Whether that means filling up pieces of paper with just repeating lines to work on it or actually doing drawing exercises I'm not sure, but I'll look at what you all suggested.

If you can handle the tedium, the line exercises found here should help: http://drawabox.com/lesson/1

Dude nobody can draw a perfectly straight line without an art program. It just takes time to get good semi straight lines.

>can some people just not learn art?

>Am I just not able to learn art, is it something I need to be born with?

No, art is a craft, and like any other craft it can be learned by everyone, some people do take longer than others and not everyone can be a master, but everyone can learn for sure.

>Secondly, is it normal for people to start with this sort of level?

Yes.

>even the fundamentals are beyond me.

Not true, you are just tackling stuff too advanced for you, start small, learn to move your arm

Hey /art/

I've stopped being a fag and actually started to watch tutorials and here's some of my sketchings so far.

Are there any /art/ approved tutorials on doing hair on different angles and good ways to do expressions and what not.

Also sorry for my tumblrette art style.

Yeah doing that again with skulls would be helpful for pretty much anyone.

Shit maybe I should try that.
