Hey guys, my name's Jack and I'm the admin of /stoic/, a new board for the discussion and teaching of Stoicism.

Many people have misconceptions surrounding stoicism, for example the belief that Stoics try to suppress feelings. On the contrary, stoics believe one should be strongly in touch with their feelings, it is the irrational influence of negative emotions on ones actions which stoics try to control. Other stoic beliefs include always doing what is right no matter the personal consequences, understanding what is and isn't in our control (and therefore conquering irrational fear), and accepting change in our personal situation as a natural consequence of the universe we live in.

Anyway, stoicism as a way of life is growing slowly but surely in the modern age, particularly in western cultures. It is perfect for those who hold agnostic or atheistic views but feel spiritually unfulfilled in the modern materialistic world - the original ancient greek stoic founders were in fact atheists.

The board is brand new, so if there are any practising stoics out there who want to help me develop a stoic community here on 8chan, feel free!
