So I'm going to propose an idea and I want you to let me know if you are on board with it or not.

When I ran these games in the past, I always added events. These are changes that are meant to hasten evolution - really get a fire under the ass of DNA. These can be natural disasters, bacterial outbreaks, sunlight changes, really anything. At some point I will try to implement those.

Now the question: how would you feel about divine intervention? In my most successful games I used an ancient group of creatures called the "stygians". They were gods who had lost their natural bodies. All of them would give "gifts" to their followers which were randomly generated mutations. Does this sound like something most of you might be interested in?

I like the idea, but use it as a very rare event.

(ie For every ten threads with a natural disaster, have one with divine intervention.)

A good idea. It can easily be over-done.

This is what I was thinking. Should we start to decide if old species have died when we edit them? That seemed to be a thing before.

Yes. I will make clearer rules and post them as a sticky shortly. I kept the rules loose in the beginning because I didn't want to turn people away will a wall of text. I will still try to keep the rules as minimal as possible.

Sweet pic, btw. Looks like fresh OC.

>>114

Ah I see, and yes it's my first nubpost

120ce2 No.118

I really like the idea of natural disasters/disease/etc, since those are very important to real evolution. Random mutations in the form of divine intervention sound fun too, as long as they aren't too frequent. Good way to spice up a game if it begins to stagnate.

>>113

This makes sense if it becomes obsolete, like if an organism is being heavily preyed upon, it would evolve and the old form would go extinct.

Agreed, competition and random special events should occur, but rarely.

736129 No.122

I also have a suggestion, when all 3 evolutions seem to be at their prime should we simulate an event in which conflicts/wars/fights occur between the three species?

Then determine the victor?

1e3390 No.123

>>122

That would be neat, like an end to the thread maybe?

736129 No.125

>>123

Exactly.

a05fca No.126

>>122

I already had something like that in mind. It would be a while off, obviously.

10086c No.141

I think, that at the end of each thread, we should just have a vote to see which creatures live or die. That is, if changes should be kept, and if originals should be discarded.

a05fca No.167

>>141

Not a bad idea, but a ways off. Let me sit on it for a little while.

10086c No.168

We could get an IRC going as well. I think an increase of communication amongst a smaller group might expedite posting.

b2f4c5 No.170

>>168

Ok. Cool. I have no idea how to do that, care to help?

10086c No.185

>>170

Just go to a server of your choice (I primarily use rizon. You could also use the suptg server, but that might be a little distasteful) type in /join #(Whatever you want the server named). If you're the first one on, you should be made OP. If you're not, then something's wrong.

10086c No.213

So is this board still alive? I know posting is down, but we don't really have enough unique IPs to maintain a stable post-count. That aside, I wanted to bring up two points.

1. Why isn't there a plant in the mountain game? I had a few ideas for the trees that the ecosystem was based off of. Surely, the trees would evolve among the creatures. Or even other plants in order to free up different kinds of food.

2. There should be some kind of mechanic for migration. Most of the species we have aren't really big enough to migrate yet, but there must have been groups of Iby that somehow found themselves on the mountains and switched from a diet of dica to fallen tree leaves. or bletus that have washed up on the shore and continued doing their whole photosynthesis thing.

I guess my delayed reply won't put your mind to ease as to how lively this board is. Yes, it is still alive. The problem with games like this is only 1 in a 100 are interested it in. And the only way we will attract new players is to have a nice wall of OC, so the few of us here need to continue evolving.

>1. Why isn't there a plant in the mountain game?

This was done intentionally. There are obviously trees in the setting, but not available for the players to evolve. I could add one to the game if you wish, I'm sure people would be open to the idea. We already have mammals and birds, so obviously that particular setting is not starting from scratch - because of this I omitted plants.

>2. There should be some kind of mechanic for migration.

Agreed. As you said, for now things are tiny and ecosystems are still evolving. It will come in time, but they would need to be their own type of games.

10086c No.223

>>217

It'd be nice to be able to modify the trees. I think that every living thing should be editable so that they can, in a sense, react to their changing environment as fast as we can change it.

a05fca No.228

>>223

I agree completely.

10086c No.241

One thing that could definitely happen is a sort of biology metathread where the users discuss mechanics of already existing creatures and how they use these parts of their bodies to help them survive. There could be small workshops teaching how evolution works and the origins of earthly species.

Likewise, we could have ecology threads to discuss how certain creatures can interact with their environment and how the environment interacts back. Yes, GM?

10086c No.264

So uh… I know it's not past posting limit yet, but I think you can end some games/move them to a next phase. It looks like all the niches seem to be covered.

b2f4c5 No.266

>>241

I see no reason to not do this (sorry for the very delayed response). Though I assume you are darwin. If not, feel free to make an alternative thread.

>>264

This is a good idea, but I'm not sure what would bring things into the next phase. I suppose I could just drop some new events in the threads. Any suggestions for new elements/gameplay changes?

a20a87 No.271

>>266

I'd say intense climate change would definitely cause a lot of change, like *if* I'm right was a large reason for many tree dwelling creatures to adopt a more terrestrial life style for example.

There could also be some merging of the biomes, causing creatures to need to compete with each other.

b2f4c5 No.274

>>271

I will make this happen

10086c No.279

Judging from the map thread, it looks like there's a lot of land and not a lot of ocean. This could mean that sea levels are low and most of the water is ice in the form of humongous icecaps- which is totally plausible, especially with the large pangaea we seem to have. Or that could just be one half of the planet and the other half is probably mostly water.

a05fca No.281

>>279

Hard to say until it all comes together. Approach the map with an open mind though - the coast/shores can be off an island or disconnected continent.
