Ever wear a t-shirt or hoodie enough times that it looks better as it starts to shred apart on the edges? Trying to figure out how to do that to a fresh shirt so it doesn't look like it's been washed 600 times.

I am NOT talking about the effect in the picture where it's cleanly cut, but rather a more natural, destroyed look. Any suggestions on how to do it without making the shirt completely fall apart or something?

Cut and tear, baby.

So something like Julius' destroyed hem tanks?

Cut some slits near the bottom and start tearing. Might want to find a way to distress the tears too.
