What makes /justvideogames/ different from all those other boards?

/justvideogames/ is a video game discussion board. This board is a bit different from a place like /v/ in that it is not video games with a slice of /b/ justified under the pretense of “board culture”. The only board culture here has to do with video games! This board is different from /svidya/ because we won’t ever try to tell you whether your post is “high quality” enough to stay on the board. Every post does not need to be an essay. As long as you keep it about video games, go wild! It is not our call to decide whether an opinion on a game or video game topic is acceptable—we are only here to ensure the topic of discussion (that of video games) stays focused. And finally, this board is different from other alternatives like /vvv/ in that we do not believe in the concept of “zero moderation”. Without any moderation at all, every board no matter what the outlined goal of discussion is eventually turns into an anarchic free-for-all like /b/. Newcomers come in, see the random fun everyone is having either ironically or not, and slowly user replacement edges the topic away from its original intention. We won’t let that happen here. Rest assured: when you browse the catalog on /justvideogames/ looking for something about video games to discuss, you won’t have to wade through a bunch of off-topic stuff to get to it.

Here are the current rules we've devised after some deliberation. Keep in mind these rules are still a work in progress and these may end up changing a bit down the line.

THE RULES

1. If it’s video games, it stays! We won’t attempt to police your opinion on video games!

2. If it isn’t video games, well anon we have plenty of other boards on 8ch to facilitate your topic of discussion. And in the event that we don’t, you can always just make one of your own!

We do not believe in rules against “trolling” or “shitposting” because it is simply too difficult to consistently ascertain whether someone is trolling or genuine; whether thPost too long. Click here to view the full text.

I like to think I'm a very empathetic person who is always striving to understand things from others' points of view and to be tactful.

On the other hand I can be a very stubborn person and have a tendency to stick doggedly to my convictions. In the case of this board, that's probably a good thing.

>Eye of the Beholder

It's an old-school dungeon crawl with mazes, monsters, puzzles and traps. It uses 2nd edition AD&D rules and the Forgotten Realms setting.

Pic related is my party.

Basically the same ruleset as in Baldur's Gate. Just search "Advanced Dungeons & Dragons 2nd edition rules" on startpage if you are genuinely interested for some reason.

 No.99[Reply]

What are some parts of video games that make you really question what the developers were thinking when they designed them?

Stage 3 of Image Fight has this ridiculous boss that fills the screen with lasers that turn 90 degrees seemingly at random. I have never managed to figure out a way to beat this boss in the intended manner as the lasers are just too difficult to predict.

Instead, there is an exploit where you can simply park your ship up above the boss as it's deploying its laser pods and then destroy it with little effort by damage from your ship exhaust or gun pods.

 No.116

Maybe not as bad as what you're describing but for me I'm wondering what they were thinking with Metal Gear Rising.

>Multiple weapons but no fast weapon switching

>sub-weapons but no fast switching and most are slow as shit to use

>game is made by Platinum and is typical hack-and-slash action like they're famous for

I know they had a wicked time constraint but come on. Those things alone would've made it top tier in spite of the shitty camera, stealth, and abundance of (admittedly cool and fun) QTEs.

Wasn't it originally planned to be? Maybe some higher-ups forced them to put it on the 3DS to promote Nintendo's new handheld.

What game(s) are you waiting for? How far into development is it? Is it turning out to be shit?

I sure hope it's not Mighty No. 2

Personally, I'm waiting on Tree of Savior and MGSV. The former is looking alright and fairly polished from the streams I've been watching (despite supposedly being several patches behind the Korean version) and I'm only slightly worried about microtransactions in MGSV. Hopefully it'll be a good last hoorah for Kojima as he moves on to other things.

I also supported Combat Core on Kikestarter and it's shaping up to be an okay Power Stone clone. My only criticism (having not played it yet) is lack of environmental activity and/or destruction. I'm also being cautiously optimistic about Bloodstained and crossing my fingers that it doesn't end up being a scam like it was with Inafune.

Also, here's an infographic which explains what damage Inafune did. An OP in this thread on /v/ did a great amount of digging and discovered how much of a fraud he is along with explaining why Capcom did a lot of retarded decisions:

How do you define "retro"? Pretend that halfchan's /vr/ never existed.

I personally hesitate to include anything made after the NES generation.

 No.59

>>57

Is it old enough that the generation that grew up on it are at least 30 years old? Then it's retro. SNES? Retro. PS1? About to be retro in a few years.

 No.61

>>59

Ouch, but then retro is a moving line. I'll never accept PS1/N64 3D shit as retro.

>I'll never accept PS1/N64 3D shit as retro.

It's too late, anon. Nothing can stop it now.

 No.71

The term "retro" has nothing to do with quality of the games.

>>59

Sounds reasonable enough. Though I'd personally consider PSX/N64 as retro just because I played them as a kid. Just like the NES, SNES ect.

Reposting an idea I've posted on /v/ a few times.

>Snatcher Sequel in Fox Engine called Snatchers as not to have a confusing name like Snatcher 2 since Snatcher isn't well known or a retarded name like 'Snatcher: The Siege of Bullshit'

>Where MGS is Tactical Espionage Action/Operations Snatcher is Cyberpunk Mystery Action

>Snatcher is set in an open world futuristic city, Neo Kobe, ala GTA. Neo Kobe is a man made city in the middle of Japan's Sea with layers similar to Coruscant in Star Wars or that one city in DE:HR.

>You can use a flying car to traverse this city. You can also use the new Metal Gear which straps to the main character's back and uses futuristic hover technology to let him use light parkour around the city and removes the risks of the main character falling off a layer of the city since the metal gear's hover can make the fall extremely softened.

>Game is 3rd person with the option of going into first person at times. Either view you get a recticle in the middle of the screen that you use to hover over objects and inspect them.

>When you hover over an object you get some options: Inspect, Inspect MG (have your Metal Gear more accurately analyze it using a black light or it taking a sample of the object to find out more about it), Act (move the object or press a button etc), or Use (use something in your inventory on the object).

>These options are brought up by (assume we're using a PS3 controller for example) hovering over the object, holding L2 and selecting the option you want with R1 and R2, then selecting with L1.

>The game also features pretty much the same gun mechanics as MGSV but obviously omitting huge guns because you're a detective.

>The same is said for sneaking mechanics which are optional but optimal to make a higher rank in a case because the cops would much rather have the criminal in custody than dead.

>This game takes a little bit of a turn from the last game. While Snatchers still factor into the main story and appear in some cases there is also an emphasis on crime since it would be weird for a wholPost too long. Click here to view the full text.

I've also thought about how augmentations would play into the lore in the classic pseudo realistic way of metal gear. I have to go do something but when I get back I'll explain how cp and drugs and whatnot would appear lore wise.

>Augmentations got big because corporations became the new 'governments' or above the government.

>They also got big because more people went to war, more people tried fighting against their governments causing more bombs for SWAT members as well as civilians, companies made fake limbs for those people and those limbs recieved 'add ons' for a companies' products. (An Ipod holder for your fake arm, etc).

>The eye augmentations also got big because people were able to survive head injuries easier.

I just want Super Metroid 2 to be honest. Not very imaginative, I know.

 No.63

Well okay, I want Super Metroid 2 with the attention to detail of Metal Slug. That'd be neat.

 No.70

I assume you didn't mean "dream games" as in games you have dreamt of. However a really weird game idea occurred to me while I was sleeping last night.

It was basically about a dragonslayer knight who was sort of into furry. Instead of killing dragons he fucked them. The whole game was based on the idea of hiding the fact that you fuck dragons instead of slaying them. Lie to people, making up excuses on why the dragons keep popping up even after you claimed you've killed them. Explaining why people visiting supposedly safe dragonlairs aren't returning ect.

JUST video games here?

Let's talk about the Smash 4 ballot, who's gonna make it?

 No.9

I really think Bomberman or Simon Belmont would have been a good pick personally. Shame it's probably going to be more faggots like Ryu.

I don't know who will actually make it but I'm hoping K. Rool makes it in.
