Go no further then the "Olympics" to find the freakish statistical ends of the Gaussian peaks. Even if the male and female mathematical aptitude peaks highly overlap, if the male peak is only slightly ahead and we are choosing only the best of the best of the best, like 1 out of 10000, 0.01%, your going to get almost all male.
The bad news is their genius does not mean anything for the rest of dullards, of which many female mathematicians can calculate circles around us: in short they are freaks. The complaint there are no women up there is petty: it's like complaining you were not born with superpowers, and the top 5 greatest superheros are male… well I was not born with superpowers either and I'm male, welcome to the mundane club, bitch.
The other argument is for female representation, that women NEED to be shoved in there so that other women can see them and say "oh maybe I can be a mathematician?" because being so shallow that you need to see people of your gender in a field to want to work it is something we should promote.
