Does donating sperm make you not MGTOW? Is it a bad idea? I heard someone got roped into child support once after a woman used his sperm from a bank.

It sounds risky to me unless you are fully aware of the legal ramifications of it. if you are 100% sure that donating your sperm won't come to bite you back some day then go for it. Otherwise stay away from it. MGTOW is all about being risk aware.

Anyway what is the motivation for this? Money? Chance of propagating your genes?

Gene propagation is the animal in you, impulse without thought. Think: where will those genes end up in the end? Answer: nowhere: if materialism is true, if technology keeps advancing, then our biology is doomed. Transhumans will have no need for hereditary genetics. At worse your genes will just mean another skull for an HK tank to roll over and crush, at best it my survive a few generations in an Amish colony before the inevitable self induced extinction of the talking monkeys.

iirc only one donation is allowed per person, total.

but I'm not 100% certain. all I know is that the amount of money one can get for donating sperm is so minor as to be totally insignificant.

on top of that, I considered donating blood recently. only worth $10, and will only be allowed to do it once every time interval (I forgot, but basically not often enough to justify the price of gas to drive the 20 miles to the nearest blood bank).

So? Let me make this clear: as time extends to infinity the chance of human survival decreases to infinitesimal. In the end, be it 100 years from now, 1000 years from now, 1 million years from now, your genetics will come to nothing.

This isn't necessarily the case. Even if true, so? Rational agents act at the margin, and my actions will have effects, even if small, that last for some period of time. I'm not particularly concerned with end results. People will live and die in the interim. I would rather take what actions I can to nudge the world in a more benevolent direction, if only for my own sake in the next ~50 years.

I was talking about donating sperm, not raising the kids. If I have genes that don't suck, why shouldn't I put them out there? It's not like it's a big time investment or anything and you get paid for it.
