The reddit jailbait debacle stands as evidence for the vast, common, popular interest in the beauty of teens and people's attraction to teenagers.

Three years ago today, you could go to google search and type in 'reddit'. And the usual results would pop up, except back then it would give some results within the website itself. In this case, google returned a list of 5 or 6 of the biggest subreddits on the website. One of them was called /r/jailbait That is to say, typing "reddit" into google immediately put /r/jailbait link right onto your screen.

Reddit became so popular and this search became so ubiquitous, that in September of 2013, Anderson Cooper had to go on national television to talk about it. In a short segment on his TV show, Cooper disparaged the entire website from allowing this "immoral depravity" to continue unabated. When Cooper tried to contact reddit main headquarters, he was told by them that they allow /r/jailbait to persist because of their libertarian commitment to free speech.

Roughly two years ago, however, the entire website declared war on /r/jailbait The subreddit and all of its related spinoffs were closed down and destroyed from existence. The new reddit rules is that no photos of any kids at all are allowed anywhere, unless that photo was taken by the parents for a silly benign reason. This draconian rule persists on a site-wide basis on reddit to this day. The rules are very lax on reddit generally, but all posts and comments can be flagged with a "report" button. One of the specific reasons listed in flagging a comment is "sexualizing minors".

/r/Starlets used to allow famous child actresses, but they recently tightened their rules to not allow "anyone under 16" regardless of whether she's famous and all over TV. /r/prettygirls will ban you for posting anyone that looks mildly like a teenager, even if the photo is taken from the neck up. To widdle it down saying a girl is pretty is "sexualizing her." And sexualizing is not allowed.

Why does this story matter for the pedo activist? The reason it matters is because you should be aware that this happened, and you should know that it happened. The reddit jailbait debacle stands as evidence for the vast, common, popular interest in the beauty of teens and people's attraction to teenagers.

I remember it very well. It was like a second shoah. I had just gotten into the jailbait subreddits a few months before they got holocausted. Haven't been back to that shithole of a site since.

This was an important moment in Internet history, and I'm glad you brought it up.

I think you have the dates wrong though. The Anderson Cooper piece couldn't have been in September 2013 because the /r/jailbait purges were much earlier.
