It shows the precedent for the path paedophiles must take, They already have a start. It is already not illegal to be sexually attracted to children (only to actually do something sexual with a child) so each and every non-offending paedophile could come out of the closet and there's nothing anyone could do to lock them up. And once they come out of the closet they can work on fighting for their "tolerance" as well. Sure there will be a lot of discrimination to tear down, but if they are so committed to not offending, then they are untouchable by the law, in fact the law is even on their side. But then why don't paedophiles do that? Especially the ones who are so proud to speak here about they would never do anything sexual with a child? Maybe because secretly, they know that's not true.
So we get back to the point of paedophiles (all the ones who truly want to do something sexual with children) wanting to do something that is currently illegal.
So we have to look at why it is illegal. Because
1) Consent (The legal definition) is required for sex,
2) The Age of Consent must be reached in order to consent,
3) A child has not reached the Age of Consent.
To challenge this it requires striking down any of those propositions.
Some paedophiles (particularly hebephiles) target proposition (3) and desire a lowering of Age of Consent such that a child within their Age of Attraction has reached the Age of Consent.
Other paedophiles target proposition (1) and though they may agree that permission is required for sex, they challenge the legal definition of consent being a requirement for sex.
While there is leeway to be made with these two approaches, challenging it at the consent level does not truly address the core purpose of Consent (to protect children). And as such these efforts almost always appear as paedophiles selfishly fighting for the rights to be able to do something sexual with a child. For this approach to work the challenge must be coming primarily from the perspective of the children.
So we must now look at it from the point of view of a crime.
It's a crime because the child has been victimised by engaging in something sexual with an adult. Some Paedophiles are focusing on this area to show statistically that a substantial amount of children are not actually victimised due to the fact they do something sexual with an adult. If they are capable of finding that distinction between what does cause the victimisation and extract that it fragments the cases into some that are currently victimless crimes and crimes with a victim.
However, merely identifying it as a victimless crime is not enough. There are already other victimless crimes which remain illegal (e.g prostitution, gambling, drug use) In order to challenge the illegality of it then, it requires showing that there are some benefits to performing this victimless crime and that those benefits are valuable enough to justify decriminalisation (e.g Marijuana).
tl;dr - Push for sex-positivity and eventually things will get there.
