I'm looking for any information about the controversial Christian sect The Family (of Love) that supposedly encouraged sex with children, during some phase of its existence. I'm especially interested in what their moral or religious motivation was for this, if there were ever any writings on the subject by anyone within the church, and anything else relating to the subject, particularly from the "inside" or not completely condemning, of course. It seems that they still exist as an organisation, but have completed distanced themselves from this aspect of their past.

Very interesting subject. I think organizing these sorts of communes would be a great idea and I'd love to be a part of them, but unfortunately it would be difficult being cut off from society (and probably the internet)
Here are just a few books I found with chapters related to this group. You can find them at some libraries and on Amazon:
>"Perfect Children: Growing Up on the Religious Fringe"
>"Cults" by Doreen Piano
>"The encyclopedic handbook of cults in America" by J Gordon Melton
>"The New cults" by Walter Martin; Gretchen Passantino; Christian Research Institute.
>"Prison or paradise? : the new religious cults" by A James Rudin; Marcia R Rudin
>"Sex, slander, and salvation : investigating the Family/Children of God" by James R Lewis; J Gordon Melton
>"Not Without My Sister: The True Story of Three Girls Violated and Betrayed by Those They Trusted" by Kristina Jones
>"Jesus Freaks" by Don Lattin

If I thought anyone would be seriously into it, I'd start a cult like this that lives on communes and sets their own laws. He could have adult women work as prostitutes to get money, just The Family Of Love did. Then any children that were produced would be divided up amongst the men

Apparently a lot of their literature is available here. It seems that they encouraged not only marriage between children, but extra-marital sex with adults as well. Ironically, they are extremely harshly against any kind of homosexuality though, but it might have been more in theory than practice. All of this ended around 1986 though, and there's little clarity as to how widespread it ever was.
