One of the main reasons why the atmosphere around Mars is hard to sustain is that the solar wind is capable of carrying away atmospheric particles, yet the solar wind that is left behind evaporates from the atmosphere due to its very high atomic speeds (hydrogen and helium also escape the Earth's atmosphere for this reason).

tl;dr Mars will never have an atmosphere capable of sustaining humans without respirators.

What is your obsession? Asteroid belt objects are a better source of temperature from collision, but Venus doesn't need that. Venus has plenty of H2O, but the toxic levels of sulfuric and nitric acid in the atmosphere make it difficult.

If bacteria could convert CO2 to hydrocarbons and sulfuric and nitric acids to water, sulfur, and nitrogen, then that would help start the process of terraforming Venus. The problem with this is that the bacteria would have to remain in the high atmosphere. The highest temperature that any known bacteria can survive is 110C, and the surface of Venus can get to about 460C.
