Some of the features are too fine for a flag. They should be more bold. Like the silhouette of the elk, the antlers get too thin, it would look shit on a flag. Especially the small thumbnail you see in Vic2. I
I made the same mistakes as you, then once I loaded up the game the flags looked like shit.

Honestly, the military flags for any nation that doesnt have a basic looking flag like France or Belgium looks like absolute garbage.
So I wouldnt worry about that part too much.
What I did is download the Ultimate mod, then I heavily, heavily modified it.
I made it so that provinces with farmland geography more often produce goods that farmland would, like grain, fruit, tobacco, etc, instead of fucking sulfur.
