This is what I'm afraid of, unfortunately our voting system for parliament doesn't make much room for anything other than a two party system and a PR system will be unlikely to ever produce a stable right wing government that will actually really untangle the mess we're in after the referendum, even if we vote out.

What model of modem do you have? You need to find the default access IP. Usually 192.168.1.1
You need to go to the modem configuration page, so plug the Ethernet cable from your pic direct into the modem, and put your pc on the same subnet, so 192.168.1.2
Then fire up a web browser and go to the IP address of the modem, and find the line stats page.
If you google the manual for your modem, the process should be in there. We can then work out what line speed you should be getting from your attenuation, and alter the SNR if needs be.
