Not American, but I have encountered a lot of them on the internet. They're surprisingly intolerant and unfriendly for people whose main virtues are supposedly tolerance and friendliness (in that sense, they are indeed a lot like Bronies, so >>4876367 is onto something).

When you say something they disagree with, they won't just argue against what you said, they'll insult you, and tell you that you're ignorant (and they, like all nineteen-year-old college students, just happen know the truth).

They'll resort to saying I must be a fat virgin, or that I'm a stupid far-right redneck who only watches Fox News (and when I explain that I don't get Fox News in my country, they'll go "fuck you" because I'm not an American voter and they're wasting their time on me).

I can see where you're coming from, but I think a lot of it is due to how overly negative ALL (and I mean ALL) outsiders are towards us. I can say with confidence I've never done what you've accused others of doing, but I don't doubt your claims one bit. I've seen these reactions plenty of times from others.

When the general consensus is that we're *list stereotypes here*, it puts us into a defensive position immediately. Plus, almost everyone thinks we're crazy before knowing anything more about the fandom. It's MLP for pete sake; I thought it was crazy or just trolls before I gave it a shot. This attitude quite often makes the non-brony aggressive, but not always. The show is pretty different from what you'd expect though.

The people who you're describing seem to be the minority, but as with most things the actual minority becomes the vocal majority. I'm fine if you don't watch the show, but there's quite a lot of people who seem to dedicate a fair bit of their time to doing nothing but harassing bronies. That's usually the only times I step in to explain the fandom in detail. This isn't the place for that though so I won't. I'm just saying that the fandom has a lot of idiots in it, but they're still the minority. It's a pretty huge fandom afterall; in 2014 there were between 7-12.4 million bronies or 4-6.8% of the internet.

I think if you actually watch the two it becomes self obvious which is better… That character development seemed quite weak in comparison to any other show I've watched, and the fight scene wasn't on the same level. This show obviously isn't marketed like the previous versions of MLP was so it's not as girly as they were, but it doesn't have the appeals that the latest generation of MLP has.

I've seen your *enter X show here* argument before, but it doensn't hold up. MLP is miles ahead in character development in comparison to something like WINX (pretty one dimensional stuff), humor (for sure), animation, plot, subtle references, adult themes, etc.

Powerpuff girls was actually made by the same person who made MLP, you realize that? It was actually a pretty good show and still has a lot of relevant moments (specifically the being oppressed one you mentioned; I've seen that as well). I never said MLP was an exclusive show for being liked outside of the target audience, but it's the largest example of it for sure.

These range from multiple multiple drunk references, to sex references, to sex guide references, just about every major TV show/movie made references, Diamond Dogs, Lady Gaga, flat out parodies of other shows (a whole 2 minutes were a complete copy of a Star Wars award ceremony), The Big Lebowski, Weird Al actually VA'ed a character based on him, gun commercial's from the 80's, Apple commercial back in the 90's, I could EASILY go on, but this is some of the ones that might stand out more than the others. There's literally pages upon pages of references, and I'd probably be better off posting them in a pastebin than just spamming them here. I can't stress enough how many there are. Name a popular movie and I bet there's a reference to it. Literally thousands of references.

The character development is pretty deep as well, and the plot is actually fairly interesting. I could go on if you're honestly interested in having a civilized discussion instead of the common, " kil ursulf fagit."

This is nothing new to cartoons, nor is it something to be proud of. Plenty of children's cartoons have references to adult themes. I hate the show, but Animaniacs has a segment where Brain is in a recording studio, and the dialog is almost verbatim of Orson Welles in a recording studio being a completely intolerant fuckwit for a frozen peas commerical. Hell, Brain himself is a play on Orson Welles.

The Ren and Stimpy show is at its core a dissection of the concept of the American Dream and a blatant parody of post-WWII consumerist culture.

Rocko's Modern Life has so many famous movie references, that an entire 23 minute episode can't last with a few thrown in. That show even had a joke about gay bashing, but was thinly veiled.

However, these are not meant to attract older audiences. They act as a device to entertain parents when watching television with their children. My Little Pony exists, like many cartoons before it, to sell toys. Their target market was most definitely children, but they managed to be successful with the twenty-something male demographic and are pandering to them for this very reason. References to The Big Lebowski is not a sign of quality. It's a sign of stagnation and pandering.

I hated Powerpuff GIrls. I didn't care much for the humor, the art, or the animation style. I was a little too old for the show at the time, however.

Also, much like I said prior, when your characters have no real sense of reality to them, one tends to lose all tension in drama and conflict, and you end up feeling underwhelmed overall.

Wrong wrong wrong. First off, it was originally designed so that parents could watch it with their kids without being endlessly bored. They did a pretty good job, and it ended up attracting other audiences as well as the show has some pretty good writing and character development. After the first season and onward, the show was losing the focus of the original target audience of the family and moving to where it would pass for the family but really was designed for Bronies. The clip I used was just one example of many, many options. Some episodes go full communism with brainwashing of outsiders, some go to manipulation of others and hostile takeover, some have demon invasion of a city, even a separate entity enslaving a nation.

Again, your whole argument seems to be, "this ain't new" but I never said it was. A good show's requirements never consisted of new last time I checked. The things that make shows great are all present in MLP whether you admit it or not.

If you watched the show and still hated us, that's fine; you're completely allowed to have an opinion. But assaulting others verbally nonstop at every chance you're given isn't helping a darn thing. I've never heard of a person who actually watched the show (not just an episode or two completely out of context and/or picking the bad episodes, I mean actually watched a fair bit of it. Not saying the whole thing, just a fair bit with a COMPLETELY OPEN MIND) and still had the same opinions about it before. I've seen a few who it doesn't appeal to, but they completely understand why it appeals to others.
