For "a few hundred" you can get the essentials. You're not going to be getting weaponry though, sadly. But to survive you dont need it. Note: this is all "inna woods" level basics. If you plan on staying where you are. Invest in canned food, bottled water, and spend the bulk of your money on a good rifle and ammo as well as a cleaning kit. Learn how to use them all. And keep materials on hand to board up windows, doors, etc. And setup choke points to defend in your home while leaving yourself an escape route. As for inna woods.. well:
1) Lighters as well as fire starting items that dont require gas/oil fuel.
Cig lighters are fine, and keeping a pack of 10 around is a good idea, and cheap. But also buy something to strike with, they sell magnesium striking kits for a few bucks. basically has a block of magnesium you shave a bit of strands off of, and a striker on the side to make a spark. Get at least one of these.
2) Knives. also knives. did i mention knives? And sharpening stones, also learn how to sharpen a blade.
Ideally, you want at least two knives, something kept razor sharp and small, for light work. And something larger for general cutting purposes.
3) Rope/cords
You'll need stuff like that to bind things together for various needs, even shelter building if you go full inna woods level.
4) fishing equipment, mainly fishing line and hooks, lots of hooks
You can use this to stitch wounds, to fish, to sew things back together, or to lay trip wires. 100 feet is a good start, but they make small bundles up to 1k feet you can easily store in a backpack… oh also
5) solid water proof backpack and sleeping bag
Self explanatory, you need to be able to carry things, and something warm to sleep in, and you dont wnt them getting wet
6) calorie dense non-perishable food items.
Someone should have the info graph (hell I might, but Im not gonna look for it atm) on a food item created from a few things like peanut butter and chex mix or some shit thats a fuck ton of calories in just a spoonful. Basically a jar should keep you stocked on calories for 2 weeks. Use it as an emergency food
7) at least one stainless steel water container that can hold at least one days worth of water.
Steel because you can boil water in it without damaging the container itself, needs to also be large enough to hold water for a full day.
8) depending on environment, keep thermal clothing (underwear) on hand, two sets, and two sets of clothes so you can change/wash one and wear one.
9) toothbrush and toothpaste, dont use them every day, a tube for one person should last six months if you go every other day, which is fine.
10) skillet and pot, steel preferably, you need shit to cook with
11) a good slingshot, practice at home, get good with it, you can take out small game easily with it, in a pinch a proper one can even be used to fire an arrow, though, with much less penetrating force
12) Finally, a good multitool, make sure its gonna last, and has the things you need on it, blades, a flat tip to use for shaving wood or stabbing small (non living/moving) things if you need to do that, can opener, pliers, possibly able to be used as a hammer
Oh also, a good pair of boots, dont wear them out wearing them around before they're needed
You can get all of that for around $400 or so. Build your bag, have it ready incase of happenings.
If you had about $2k I'd say also invest in a good rifle/ammo and a bow plus arrows.
