an EMP wouldn't "wipe out" the US, or disable automobiles or even most electronics, also its not even on a flight path above the US

It's probably just a shitty satellite launched as a tool of propaganda. At most it's a spy satellite.

They do stuff like this every now and then, only to end up begging for foreign aid and promising not to do it again.
