Pretty long thread, as much as I like reading your posts, I'll cut to my perception of the issue. I largely believe minimum wage is a non issue once you escape the retail and service industry. Ideally nobody wants to be working those jobs and should strive for something better, that's where people pick a stepping stone in either college or certifications to move to a higher skilled job. The problem right now isn't so much minimum wage as it is a combination of most people lacking the will or means to acquire that stepping stone and the increasing experience demand. Entry level White collar jobs are unreasonably plagued with high experience expectations when you can easily teach those skills within the first week. We've also got a plethora of graduates desperate for jobs and are unfortunately at the mercy of their potential employers concerning pay and benefits. Blue collar has been panned as this impossible field when it has so much demand right now the wage floor is practically 19-25/hr with almost no experience. If you are experienced then Hell you'll easily be up in the 25-30/hr range. Also I'd tack lack of jobs sentiment on shitty human resource employees who have no idea what a position easily requires yet is still in charge of the entire hiring process.

Again, I don't really think minimum wage itself is the root of the problem; in fact I'd wager only conglomerates implement minimal wages to take advantage of the desperation for jobs. Most small businesses I've encountered have no issue offering 12 and up for workers they only have to train once.

As of now, you can apply (and depending on your demographic, males are in high demand for teaching since there are so few, be almost sure to get approved) for a TEACH Grant. It will pay $4000 a year towards college programs for you to get a degree that will prepare you for a teaching job in a high need field. $4000 doesn't soudn like a lot, but for a community college or local college it should be more than enough to cover tuition, books, and other fees.

Now what is a high need field? Skimming the information I find Math and Science. Holy shit, you mean it doesn't have to be a useless education degree, it can be in something useful. All you have to do is teach for four years after you get out.

Just think of it as serving in the military but without the chance of dying for Israel.

The position itself is called "Night shift general assistant" but that's just just glorified shelf stacking really.

It pays a fair bit more than minimum wage so I couldn't give a fuck what the job is lol, but let's see…

Basic wage for part time shift (5 hours) is £7.57 ($11 an hour)

But the full 10 hour shift wage is £10 an hour ($14.50) because you get "premium" for working between the hours of 11 pm and 2 am.

I worked my way up from a shitty 12 hours weekly contract at £7.57 an hour, to an upgrade of contract to 30 hours a week at £10 an hour.

On that alone, I'd never save up as much as I did as quick as I did, if it weren't for there always being overtime… I'm actually first choice for overtime, management plays favourites so I ashamedly made myself their favourite. It got so obvious that I was literally doing all the overtime, so the other workers were moaning about it kek

Also there is a lot of teaching jobs that aren't strictly teaching that are good pay, stuff like subbing, tutoring, resource jobs, after school day care.
