Hmm. I don't feel that great about Testing, and it's not because of the pacing. I agree that the pacing in that episode is fine, but having all the characters in there felt like a waste. That, and people tend to point to that episode as an example of pegasus Twilight done right, while I think the episode's basic message could've been achieved without her.
For example, I think it could've worked just as well, if not better, if you replaced Princess Twilight with Fluttershy, and then just relegate Twilight to a side character for the episode. The reason I would rework Testing this way other than because I don't like alicorn Twilight is because it still maintains Twilight's geeky side of her personality,

but it doesn't focus on it as a showcase of her entire personality, which just made her seem a little more annoying than endearing. I'm not saying she didn't have good moments in the episode, or didn't make it enjoyable to watch. I'm saying she wasn't necessary even as a unicorn though she would've been much cuter.
Plus, this would've been a nice opportunity to show that while Fluttershy didn't fly so good well at flight camp, she did do well in history class, which would make her a little more invested in helping her best friend from flight camp pass this big test.
This is all leaving aside the fact that Rainbow Dash's "Wonderbolt's arc" is a staggered and drawn-out mess of episodes sprinkled throughout each season, but that's another problem entirely. As for the other characters–Spike, Rarity, Applejack, Pinkie Pie–I like how they contributed to the conclusion of the episode, but they still just felt like filler.
