876d46 No.158150

Why don't they hire the highly rated, disciplined writers over at FIMfiction?

97e9bc No.158151

>>158150

I know from experience that more often than not, the highly rated writers aren't as much disciplined and skilled as simply attention whoring, writing generic plots with likeable themes.

Also, It's quite probably that IDW doesn't even know fimfiction exists.

79967e No.158152

>>158150

Writing comic is very different from just writing. You have a fixed amount of pages to write about, and very limited set of panels in each page. So basically you have to make a story in 22-88 pages while make sure you convey every point you try to make without going over or under the limit. Also, you are writing a description for an artist to draw, and sometimes, things looks better in your head than when it's drew on paper. So a writer with an artistic background is strongly encouraged.

I thought it was easy too, but I realised I've got a long way to go.

569b9c No.158154

>>158152

Yeah, but considering how upset we are? Wouldn't it be better for them to interest the possibility?

I am sure several authors in the fandom could do it, better than the current IDW writers.

6d4b3d No.158159

iirc, isn't the pony comic the highest selling comic IDW has?

Fucking this. They are not good. They are just good at giving their audience what it wants. Seriously, read real books for a while, and you will see what I am talking about.

bac806 No.158232

If the deviantart artwork artists banded up together with the fanfic writers then we could blow the fuck out of IDW permanently.

97e9bc No.158233

>>158217

Yeah, well, 'real' books often aren't any better, though. I mean look at bullshit like 50 Shades of Gray – do you think that's the only piece of garbage that got published and marketed? There are tons of other books just as shitty, only less heard about.

There are fanfics on fimfiction that are, objectivelly, better written than many a 'real' book, but for each such fanfic, you get a hundred that are total shit, and a dozen that are mediocre but milk a certain audience.

47818c No.158243

>>158232

we need madmax, vavacung, or doublew to replace katie cuck! Or alternatively they can do the art and Ponimotes, weaver, and InsertAuthorHere can do the writing.

And Sidorovich, if anyone can bring that ass out of hiding.

97f1ab No.158256

Tbh 50 Shades of Gray was a really shitty example, as it was originally a Twilight fanfic.

The most popular ones that come to mind are past sins and I don't even remember the name but it was generic self-insert I-have-fire-hair-and-am-shipped-with-luna fic. The writer tried rewriting the whole thing and gave up

I think Bobby might be absolutely right with this.

>writers do not matter as much as artists when it comes to comic books

dde468 No.158598

Letting fans write for an official product is always a terrible idea.

>>158233

>fifty shades of shit

>a real book

Absolutely not.

If you want to read, start with classical literature.

If that's too much for you right away, then start with some decent light fantasy like the Wheel of Time.

>>158568

I don't know about that.

Remember the Reflections arc? Sure, Price can draw, but nothing short of Michelangelo-tier paintings could save the abysmal mess that the story created.

The plot doesn't need to be too complex in comics, but it needs to get the point across as clearly as possible while still being likeable to the audience.

97e9bc No.158600

>>158598

>implying I don't read

Right now, we're flinging shit at each other because each of us understands something else under 'real book'. So let's define it. Your definition so far seems to be 'Only books that I personally like are 'real books''

My definition so far was 'Any book that gets published and sold in bookstores is a 'real book''

dde468 No.158606

>>158600

I never said or implied something like that.

By definition, yes, it is a real book. Sure.

But so are the "joke" books with no words and only empty pages.

I don't like or even care about classical American literature, but I'd never say that those aren't "real" books.

My point is that there are works that are so atrocious that it is easy to universally agree that they are not worthy of mention if you are into reading.

I hadn't thought about it that way. I really enjoyed Whitley's first story with the Twilight micro-comic, even though Thom Zahler didn't compare to Andy Price at the time.

Ah, those were the good days.

6e07f6 No.158624

>>158623

Anyways, Curnow might have been emphasizing that the look is more important than the story in a visual medium like comic books, but maybe he's wrong about that. Maybe it depends also on what kind of reader you're catering to: one that just likes to look at the pictures, or one that cares about what's going on and why.

I'd say he's right, but the problem is that people mostly just give the pictures a quick glance and then move on to the text.

Nice derail.

Long story short, artists put in far more hours for a comic than writers do. There's more work for artists.

Bobby just worded it for those in the know within the industry rather than the regular twitter follower.

Also, I got this info from /mlp/. Which probably has some /co/ oldfags, one of who does know better.

>>158150

Can someone post 140 鼻's? i've got an idea this might break twitter's storage, and then use it to convey jargon dependent information. May be missing some of the context here, but that sounds a tad like a faggoty move.

Twitter is a bane on the concept of discourse. And not in the fun /bane/ way.

>>161090

So he's basically only got a point in the context of comics.

But even then, a comic can have great art but without good writing, no one is going to give a shit. Of course, the best comics have both, and presumably writers and artists who work together well and don't degrade the other's talents. Given the medium, that in fact seems absolutely necessary.
