Lately there has been quite a few threads about drawing so here is a thread for anyone who is interested in learning how to draw or get better. Below are some resources to get started with and hopefully I can edit and add more. If you have any suggestions or guides please link them.

Great Drawing Programs
Adobe Photoshop - This is a no brainier. There are a million videos out there on how to draw using photoshop which makes it great for learning by yourself.

Paint Tool SAI - Great tool for doing vectors and other outlines for MLP style drawings. Also very lightweight if you don't have a powerful computer.

Gimp - Essentially a freeware version of Photoshop. If you don't wanna pirate CS6 then this is a pretty good alternative

MS paint - lol

Video Guides

http://youtu.be/IhVnVGWtCU4 - A decent video by a neckbeard which shows the basics of how to paint in Photoshop. This kind of drawing works perfect with MLP style drawings.

http://youtu.be/IYcau4rs4K4 - Same neckbeard different topic. This one shows you how to get crisp lines without using a drawing tablet for us poorfags out there.

http://youtu.be/Xq256GHv1GI - How to draw lines with a mouse in SAI weeb style! Once again good for MLP.

PRO TIPS

Start by just tracing bases or pictures until you can get more familiar with the tools

Feel free to make DANK MEMES for 8chan with your amazing skills until you can challenge god in a 1v1 drawing contest

Draw what you think is fun, helps make it easier to dump time into it

LEARN TO TAKE CRITICISM, this is a big one. As a good rule of thumb assume your art is shit and not matter how retarded the suggestion it is better then what you made. If you get offended and just want people to tell you how great your shit art is then feel free to head on over to DeviantArt.com

Things This Guide Needs

More videos. I could only sift through so much autism while making this guide. Does not have to be pony related, but a MLP focused guide would be nice.

Some good examples and drawfags who know what they are doing to add feedback.

Turns out airbrush is good at shading stuff rather than smudge tools. I still miss Flockmod autocircle tools

Be careful with that. Sometimes it gives the art an unattractive appearance. One of the common noob things in DA-tier art is bad airbrush shading.

Personally I do a combination of paint brush and airbrush. Block in the main colors and blending with the paintbrush then use the airbrush to smooth things out or for when I need a broad smooth gradient.

The neck's too long, the ear is pretty small for me, the back looks a tad weird.

Avoid scratching, unless you want to make it look really fluffy. Use shapes, then put some smooth lines on them.

Since I didn't feel like writing the rest out, I'm just gonna write out some things I noticed in the original picture.

The body is a bit chubby.

The hindlegs bend way too much, the way they are right now would break their bones.

The front legs need to be moved a little bit more towards the chest.

Let me know if you can't read my handwriting.

Hey there.

I'm better at showing rather than telling, but I'll try anyways.

The redline was mainly just something quick I did to go along with me telling you what you did wrong.

For the most part, you did bretty gud on this.

The hindlegs look nice, you did good with those!

The torso, though, has way too much human anatomy in it.

Pony shoulders do not work the same way human shoulders do. Instead of protruding the same way humans do, they're more… inward.

You made the neck way too long, stiff, and thick. The head looks great though.

On the right arm, you did well with the horse anatomy. But on the left, you put way too much human into it. It looks like a half-human half-horse abomination.

But otherwise, you did pretty good on this and I'd like to see more from you in the future.

Reminder to draw every day and make a conscious effort to improve.

I find artists like this on tumblr who get hundreds of notes and are fed bullshit by their followers and commissioners about how their art is so good and how they're improving so much when in reality they haven't improved in 3 years. This is just one example.

Don't let yourself be like this. Commission money/notes/popularity will go to your head and only hurt yourself. Never settle for being good enough.
