Dammit we should've brought a lander with us to explore Ceres but noooooo, it's not like landers have made groundbreaking discoveries or anything. Does Ceres have a magnetosphere, and with it, a molten core? If so, that ice could have melted into water where life can evolve. Maybe Ceresians exist if this is true.

So what do spergs think of random number theory?

For example, password/passphrase security.

Some people recommend the diceware method. Then there's this site: google: "how big is your haystack which claims to test password strength.

Here is an example passphrase from the diceware site:

strop 17 aw tete karp

24 character password from random org:

These sites are made for normalfags to share on facebook and feel amazed at how cool science is. They are next to useless except as rudimentary tools.

Time to crack, entropy, etc. is impossible to calculate just from the data itself. Here's a random string:

>KGJGZHVLNC

What's the entropy? Entropy is just the logarithm of all possibilities, so let's look at those.

If you assume that the rule is "uppercase letters" there are 26^10. But how do you know they were English letters? If the Czech alphabet was used, you get 42^10. How do you know they were all uppercase? What if I generated mixed case and just happened to get only upper case ones? What if my alphabet was in fact CGHJKLNZ? You won't see A in there, why do you assume it was a possibility?

In fact, what if my generation method was:

Pick random integer x s.t. 0>x>=1
if x==1 return KGJGZHVLNC

Then the entropy is 0.

You see now that entropy is entirely dependent on context. With passwords, the question is, what does the hacker think your password will be? If the hacker is a retard who tries every combination of every ASCII character, first for 1 char, then 2 chars, etc. Then aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa is an excellent password with superb entropy. If your password is "strop 17 aw tete karp", the entropy depends on what the hacker thinks. Does he expect that your password could be any string? Then he will have to try everything and entropy is high. Does he somehow expect that you will have a password made of words, then he can look for dictionary words delimited by spaces, and entropy is lower.

In reality, hackers don't sit around trying to guess what your password is. Every time news breaks out about x million compromised accounts, they obtain that list, add it to other lists they already have, and make a list of top X most common passwords. When hacking you (more like hacking millions of people at once which happen toPost too long. Click here to view the full text.

Are black holes actually a by product of a massive singularity in three dimensional space? or are they just really dense like a neutron star? i'm curious where the mathematical representation breaks down for the actual physical one. it must have an upper and lower bound for its density and volume right?

and while i ask this, i am aware of the no hair theorem and the metric which limits the parameters that we measure, but are there any theories or models that limit the density and volume of the singularity so that its not unphysical in representation?

well 2.5 gpa (with 4 failed exams) with me barely even trying ,gotta get my ass in gear then

probably gonna lose a year though so fuck it

tnx m8

 No.2500

>>2492

Ah. Not to be mean, but I'll be honest, with 2.5 you're looking pretty bad. It would be very hard to get into a top 50 US program with less than 3.0, and usually <3.5 severely hurts your chances. (getting into so-so programs is risky because academia is a pyramid scheme and it makes life as post doc very hard)

If you have

>strong recommendations (preferably mentioning that grades don't reflect your potential for whatever reason)

>research experience that you can spin well (ie. explain the research clearly, show you understand the science, and are aware of how your contributions make a significant impact)

>perfect GRE score (not too hard if you grind for a few months), preferably also high GRE Subject

Then you might still make it even in top 20. If one of these is weak but 2 are strong, or one is strong and two are medium, you're still good.

I was in a very similar position to you once (shit GPA, so-so recs, shit school) and I'd recommend you to forget PhD for now, it's a hail mary and even if you manage to get lucky and get in, you'll still be hamstringing yourself by committing to a PhD program that is not the best you can get.

Pull together whatever connections and resources you have, and get into a decent master's program in your country or elsewhere in Europe. You want:

>good resources (lab space, funding, etc) but not too selective

>professor who doesn't entertain strange notions of trapping you into becoming his PhD student (you will be able to get into much better PhD programs if MS goes well)

>professor prepared to work with you to get a paper done at the end of year one with you as first author (meaning decent project where you lead, no being some postdocs bitch for maybe middle authorship)

>professor okay with you focusing on research in year 1 and then finishing up course requirements in year 2 (you will be applying at the beginning of Post too long. Click here to view the full text.

I use the numbered grades 2.5 (our system)

I convert them to US grades then to ECTS I get 3.26 . Why is your american system so shit , why don't you distinguish between 5 and 6 ?

 No.2517

>>2511

Oh, sorry, hope I didn't misunderstand you. Usually GPA is out of 4, with AA/A+ being 4.0, B being 3.0, C being 2.0.

If you have 3.26/4.00, you're in a lot better shape than 2.5. However, I'd still recommend doing a Master's or working a year or two, then you could get into 10 programs or top 30 at the worst.

This all assumes that North Korea is moderately okay at the biological sciences.

But I'm just curious, what sort of accelerated progress is possible with human experimentation?

How hard would DIY genetic manipulation be?

Crisper is supposed to be easy as fuck but you need to do it on germ cells to get a second generation with the alterations throughout.

How hard is it to do IVF on mice? I don't care if I have to cut up some mice to get eggs and sperm.

The goal is to gain the skills required to make cat girls so I would want to genetically modify the mice with cat genes.

What would the base level of required equipment be?

 No.2458

 No.2466

Biologist working on CRISPR here.

>Crisper

If you can't even spell it, maybe you should find another hobby.

>How hard would DIY genetic manipulation be?

What exactly are you trying to manipulate? Introducing point mutations is pretty easy in flies or fish if you inject embryos. If you want mammals, good luck, even actual biologists hate making knockout mice without a very good reason (ie. Nature paper) because of how difficult it is.

For DIY, the big problems will be:

>figuring out how to sequence cheaply so you can confirm your manipulations

>obtaining dangerous chemicals like ems if doing mutagenesis

>budget is from $10k's to $1m's depending on scope

>ethics review for animal experiments

>storing samples without buying huge expensive -80C freezers and backup power system

>sterilizing shit without expensive autoclaves

Bacteria and other single cell organisms are doable, especially if you find a local hackspace or uni lab willing to accept volunteers.

>How hard is it to do IVF on mice?

Very hard. You can't do it on your own. Even with a PhD in relevant field it's hard. On your own, forget it.

>catgirls

Retarded idea, won't happen in your lifetime. Forget it.

If you are serious about this, change your major to Bio, get a Bio PhD from top 10 schools, learn Chinese and get a senior scientist job in China. You still won't be able to do it, but maybe a century after you're dead someone will do it based on the groundwork you laid down.

But who am I kidding, you can't even be bothered to Google the thing you want to work with to make sure you know how it's spelled. Good luck with your shit life.Post too long. Click here to view the full text.

>For DIY, the big problems will be:

I should add, that is assuming you somehow have all the scientific wisdom of an experienced scientist without even going through a PhD program. In other words, it's just not gonna happen. Biology is hard, there's a reason why everyone doing it has a doctorate.
