This all depends on personal preference. I suggest reading "Roadside Picnic" then watch Andrei Tarkovsky's "Stalker" (Screenplay written by Boris and Arkady Strugatsky.)

After this I suggest plunging feet first into the zone by playing the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. franchise (See sticky >>153)

The writing and story are atrocious (it'z da illoominati, gaise), and it's much too heavily scripted. Integrating sections like Underground Agroprom into the main maps was a neat idea at first, but it just doesn't work out well.

Q: Why does STALKER Clear Sky run like shit and how can I make it not run like shit? Does anyone have it narrowed down? What features really destroy my frames?

Even with SOC 1.04 and newer releases, multicore is godawful shit and 95% of the game runs entirely on one core.

Sun ray shaders being unoptimized doesn't help, nor do the times of day shadows for objects are really long (despite draw distance for quality shadows being Xbox-tier short).

So, a reason I love the STALKER lore that I think stuff like Survivarium misses out on is that the zone is a contained incident. It's not dire everywhere, just the zone, making it a new frontier rather than a huge disruption.


Does anyone feel the same way as me? I don't know why it makes such a big difference to me, either. Maybe it's somehow more optimistic in tone? like the zone being researched to improve the rest of the world. It's part of why artifacts are so valuable, being able to teach us how to improve batteries, etc.

I think you've hit the nail right on the head, stalker.

Both in "Roadside picnic" and Tarkovsky's "Stalker" the stalker character becomes part of the zone. This transition makes them useless to society outside of the exclusion zone.

>i hear chimeras and bloodsuckers

>i ready myself and rush in

>all of a sudden i see probably 15+ chimeras and psuedogiants

I think you're best off using austrian OD surplus with an OD plate carrier.

You can't really pull off the sunrise look too well, as it'll need to be all slim fitting, and the chest piece will end up looking like a bra.

So against my better judgement and lack of knowledge on the SDK and game devving in general, I gotta ask:

Why aren't there more custom levels in STALKER?

I suppose that the engine itself being slav-magic would explain why only Russians really make levels for STALKER, but I'm curious that exploration is one of STALKER's strong points and yet there are really only mods that have more of a gunplay/realism aesthetic going on. Not that there's anything wrong with those, but after playing AMK and such mods for SoC to death and seeing the same old levels over and over fatigues me and I know immediately what to expect.

I tried REALLLY hard to figure out how to get the SDK working, my plan was I wanted to make a new area for clear sky. there is next to no information about modding and editing stalker levels. and the info that you can find is in Russian/Ukrainian

I eventually just gave up, It has to be possible though. Some guy had a tutorial he was trying to sell about how to make shit with the stalker tools. He is the same guy who made his own screen recorder software and is trying to sell it.

I have a question, I'll be off to study in Japan in a few years. I've been thinking of stalking around the exclusion zone near fukushima, what should I pack?

Bring a small bag and pack very lightly. Make sure to have enough food for a few days, and make sure it doesn't get exposed to too much radiation. Also make sure that you cover up as much of your skin as possible. I'm talking full BDU'S with the ends ducttaped so you can seal them off.

Tried that. Still did it with a completely untampered fresh install.

I can only guess it's autosaving. No quicksave is made, but there is an autosave in the load menu labelled "all". I went into the savedgames folder and deleted it, but sure enough when I went back into the game and checked there it was again.

At this point all I can think of is that it was a bad torrent.

You could also go to "*your pc*/documents/*S.T.A.L.K.E.R file*/" and find a config file or something similar.

Whether it be "hunt 2 bloodsuckers with a Makarov" or "run to the CPP and touch the wishgranter without firing your weapon" the first stalker to post AN OC WEBM or video of him completing the task gets some sort of prize.
