Probably a pleb question to ask, but here goes nothing. How exactly do the armored troops (we'll use the stormtrooper in this example) in the Star Wars universe get killed exactly? I realize they're human or something or other underneath that armor, but how do blasters and the like kill them? I'm not too keen on the lore, but in the games and movies, it seems like they just go down without any marks or anything. This is done for a myriad of reasons I'm guessing, but in the books and whatnot, it's explained in greater depth that blaster are going to leave a pretty nasty wound, right?

If GL had intended that then Mace and the rest of them could have deflected blaster shots with their hands.

>>1738

If GL had intended it? You do realize that he used to sign off on all the books, games, and adaptations, right? Should we also ask why the Empire, an entity with literally millions of Star Destroyers didn't have more with them to defend Death Star II? It's because, like many other universes (ex. WH:40K) in which the actual quantifiable numbers are too large to show on screen/on a board, the directors have to scale up/down the existing entities.

Yoda deflected lightning with his hands. It's probably just way easier to use a lightsaber, which is why it doesn't happen as much.

In the SWTOR trailer Satele Shan blocks a lightsaber with her hands, but it takes a lot of focus on her part.

Different force users are skilled in/able to perform different techniques, energy absorption is one such technique. It was expanded upon in a Corran Horn novel "I, Jedi" I think. The most powerful manefestation demonstrated to my knowledge was a guy who totally drained a lightsabers powersource after being stabbed by it.

>1. While the video encodes are great, they're not Blu-ray

>Video encoding technology has come on leaps and bounds in the last few years but regardless of how crisp the images look on a digital download version of a film, they will always be trumped by the Blu-ray version. That's because a Blu-ray has far greater storage space for video content: 25GB for a single-layer disc, 50GB for double-layer. A lot of that will be taken up by the audio encode, but the video will still be a mightily large file.

All this detail that had been hiding beneath the DNR had just come right up to the surface, making this new regrained version of The Phantom Menace not only more filmlike but more detailed as well, all considered, a big improvement over the original blu-ray transfer IMHO, especially when viewed in motion."

It's pretty much the only NJO book that i truly liked and it's because it makes some actually good points about the Force and the grey morality of its usage. Vergere is a stupid character in some of the books but in this she is basically an even older and even more manipulative Kreia.

It's not "hardcore" or really that much gory though, but it has Ganner "the Ganner" Rhysode making his infamous last stand.

We’ve known that things weren’t looking good for that Star Wars TV show, Star Wars: Underworld, for quite a while now, but with The Force Awakens and more new films on the way, could those 50 scripts George Lucas wrote with a team of writers years ago come back into play? According to Ronald D. Moore who was on that team, there’s no plans to use the material as far as he knows.

While promoting his latest show, Starz’s adaptation of Outlander, he said the following about the status of the project:

“I have no idea. The entire Star Wars things got sold to Disney so it’s over in the house of the mouse and whatever they want to do with that is what they’re gonna do with it and I’ve heard nothing so I don’t know.”

Even though it doesn’t seem like Disney and Lucasfilm will use Moore’s work anytime soon – if ever – he insisted, it was still one heck of an experience:

“Trust me, one of the great experiences of my life was sitting in a room with George Lucas and arguing about Darth Vader … It was like, ‘What would he say in this circumstance?’ And you find yourself, you’re sitting there going, ‘No! What are you talking about? He can’t say that,’ and then you catch yourself and you’re like, ‘What the fuck am I doing? I’m telling George …’ It’s like, how crazy is this? But he was a good sport about it and he was just like, ‘Alright. Fine.’ He’s like, ’No he won’t.’ I’m like, ‘Oh, then no he won’t.’”

Even though Star Wars: Underworld isn’t taking off, there was a recent rumor claiming that there’s a live-action Star Wars TV show in the works that would shoot at Pinewood Studios in London using the same sets as the movies. There’s been no official word that this is actually happening so I wouldn’t take it to heart just yet, but with the success of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., a live-action TV show does seem like a very logical next step.

While we wait for more information on that, check out the video clip of Moore talking about his Darth Vader arguments with Lucas below. We’ll have more from Moore on Outlander soon.

Upon my first viewing of the original trilogy I was very intrigued by the character of Owen Lars. His fear of the Jedi and of Luke ending up "like his father" were extremely prescient given that the story of Anakin Skywalker as we know it today had not yet been written at the time Owen's dialogue was conceived, and the prequels could've taken this plot thread in a very interesting direction.

Instead, we learn that Owen and Anakin weren't even blood related and met maybe all of once. One of the biggest lost opportunities in a trilogy full of disappointments.

Discuss Uncle Owen here.

 No.1556

Well the whole backstory established in ANH was pretty much thrown out by ESB when Lucas made Darth Vader Luke's father.

When ROTJ came around Owen was meant to be Obi Wan's brother.

Following what was laid out in the OT for the PT would have been pretty hard.

 No.1613

it actually makes a lot of sense

owen is luke's uncle-in-law. no kid ever feels comfortable being raised by their in-laws, and no in-law would ever feel comfortable raising their in-law's kids. there's always going to be that inevitable space. if owen and anakin were blood related it would be different, owen would treat luke as if he was his own child. i mean, luke was literally delivered to owen's doorstep and pretty much given no say at all in the decision, so he has every right to be distant. or, had owen and anakin known each other longer than a week at most, their relationship would also be much more different.

now the question is, did owen ever learn if vader was anakin? i'm referring to the "luke has too much of his father in him. that's what i'm afraid of." scene, or was that all based upon their few days spent together?

 No.1614

>>1613
In the time Owen knew Anakin, he rushed off across the Jundland wastes on a speeder to eradicate an entire village. Even if the intentions were good, and Owen appreciated that Shmi was brought home, that's still probably the most reckless thing he had ever seen anyone do.

(https://cp.nintendo.co.jp/us/) Which got me thinking would you guys like to see a Star Wars character in Smash? Admittedly, it isn't very likely, but Smash does have non-Nintendo characters and Vader is extremely recognizable. If a lot of people nominated him he might just get considered.

 No.1515[Reply]

There is a lot of hate for the prequels. I share most of this hate, and I do not disagree with most of the gripes. However, I don't consider George Lucas this evil man that many seem to think he is. I think he made one large mistake, and then did his best to salvage it. That mistake, was ever making prequels in the first place.

We already knew what would happen. Anakin would become a Jedi then fall, the Republic would become the Empire, Yoda and Obi-Wan would end up in exile, etc. etc. That doesn't leave a lot of room for story telling. It especially doesn't leave room for the happy go lucky story of heroes we all know and love from the OT.

Lucas felt that he needed to expand on what had happened, and I do not disagree. But we have seen this can be done in many ways: books, comics, video games, shows, all those things. But the formula for a good trilogy just weren't there in the story that HAD to be told.

That being said, Lucas salvaged as much as he could. You can see an obvious change in style (in aesthetics, acting, colours/lighting) between TPM and AOTC/ROTS. The story of heroes that we see in TPM all but evaporates into just shoving information down your throat with a barrage of special effects.

There is the idea that the story was just there for special effects. In a sense I think this is true. The story is secondary, as it could only be secondary with what Lucas had limited himself to in that the rather bleak ending was already set up.

Part of what made the OT so fantastic: Lucas had room to totally unleash that insane imagination of his. It wasn't even until later that they decided that Vader would be Luke's father, and that ended up being one of the most iconic plot twists in Western culture. He wasn't limited to a predetermined ending, so the OT was able to flourish. A prequel trilogy would never have that chance. The only place he had a chance to use his imagination was in things like aliens, ships, battles, etc. that people fault him for, as they believe the prequels were just made to sell toys.

tl;dr: George Lucas isn't evil, once the decision to make prequels was made he did the best he could
