if they halted hardline they can halt battlefront, but my guess is disney is gonna tell ea to tell dice to cut corners if necessary and we'll end up getting a choppy game released on time to meet market stuffs and then as the game progresses they'll fix it up. hopefully.

 No.4569

Don't think Disney is going to have much direct say on how development goes. Otherwise Disney micromanaging EA who micromanages DICE sounds like a complete disaster waiting to happen.

 No.4570

>>4569

that's what i'm saying will most likely happen. if they hadn't announced the battle of jakku dlc launching right before the movie releases, they would be in the clear with a delay, seeing as how the movie would build hype for a new battlefront, and then if they announced the battle of jakku, it would further increase pre-orders and hype all around.

you have to remember that disney is cashing in on profits as well, and they'll want their product released in a timely fashion that fits their schedule.

Just being super general here: what is your honest opinion of the prequels?

I think most if not all of us can probably agree that they're poorly made films that shit on the legacy of the original trilogy, but I've grown to love certain things about their characters, setting and aesthetics. Primarily because of the EU, mind you - but still.

The stories told in the films are very, very flawed, but I've come to accept (and even sorta like) them as canon.

 No.4076

Now I am probably in the minority here, but I like the prequel films better. I simply love the concept of the Clone Wars and how the prequel films feel so much more like a real living universe compared to the desolate, backlot feel of the original three films. I have to admit: I like the EU a lot better than the actual films.

>the prequel films feel so much more like a real living universe compared to the desolate, backlot feel of the original three films

I agree with this.

Lucas definitely tried to expand the universe since he had access to more affordable effects.

There are no living worlds in the Original Trilogy.

It was… lame.

After getting older, watching again, etc, i finally could see as bad written and conducted material.

You could simply made things simplier and conforming to the previous movies.

Obi Wan meets Anakin, a dashing young pilot at the service of the Republic. He took him as apprentice, the Clone Wars happens, with some evil guys using clones as fodder against the republic. War happens, Anakin turn evil, helps the empire purge the jedi, which took some time. Also bang Luke/Leia mother during the war.

No gungas, no Liaam Neeson, no order 66, no Anakin Whinnywalker, no jumping Yoda, etc.

Simple, ellegant, and matching with Obi-Wan description at the original SW.

Kinda spoilers for Ep 7 below? I dunno, this topic kind of extends beyond that.

So rumors say that Leia is now a queen in Ep 7. Which got me to thinking: queen of what exactly? the asteroid field formerly known as Alderraan? I don't recall her being called "princess" after her planet blew up up in the OT, but maybe I'm wrong.

Tl;dr: does Leia have any right to maintain her royalty status given that her planet/kingdom was asploded?

one of her biggest reasons for quitting was that the clone wars tv show would make her novels redundant.

bitch is lucky the deltas even got featured in the show at all, her shit was already non-canon to begin with.

she was also pissed because the mandalorian language that she helped develop also kinda just went out the window.

of course, if you ask any mandalorian cosplayer, they will still use her alphabet and language rules, so really she just blew shit out of proportion like any other woman.

also she's old, ugly and didn't get any dick for being a semi-known writer.

So from what I understand from quickly browsing Wookieepedia's article on Episode VII, the two factions are the Resistance and the First Order, (aka Rebel Alliance/Galactic Empire 2: Electric Boogaloo).

My question is, do you anons think that they would introduce more than two factions that would side with either the Resistance or First Order?

If Lucasfilm wants to do something along those lines, I would like to see each galactic faction represent a different form of government, such as:

1. Democracy (Resistance/New Republic, duh)

2. Empire (First Order/Imperial Remnant, duh)

3. Aristocracy/Monarchy/Nepotocracy (Kingdom)

4. Geniocracy/Meritocracy/Technocracy (Scholarly/Academic State)

5. Kratocracy/Autocracy/Stratocracy (Warrior/Military State)

6. Timocracy/Ochlocracy/Ergatocracy (Worker/Communist State)

7. Bankocracy/Corporatocracy/Plutocracy (Corporate State)

8. Kleptocracy/Anarchy/Adhocracy (Criminal State)

9. Kritarchy/Bureaucracy/Nomocracy (Police State)

10. Theocracy/Oligarchy (Religious State)

11. Chiefdom/Band Society (Tribal State)

…and any other form of government that I forgot to mention. Pic related.

It's an aristocracy.

http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Aristocra

>Standard and day-to-day decisions were made by a democratically elected parliamentary body from each of the 28 colonies. Issues were siphoned up through the parliament to a cabinet of appointed governors, and then to the ruling families, where a decision made by the parliament and/or cabinet could be approved for action. Each of the extended ruling families was responsible for a set of government affairs to manage: House Sabosen was responsible for social issues such as justice, health, and education; House Inrokini was responsible for industry and science; House Csapla was responsible for colonial affairs, agriculture, and redistribution of resources; and House Nuruodo was responsible for military and foreign affairs. The Csapla's redistribution of resources amongst the Chiss colonies and Csilla was particularly important, given the collectivist-socialist economic system of the Chiss, and led to their relative position at the head of the families, with the others acting in an advisory role. House Nuruodo would be ranked as second, considering the importance of warfare on Chiss society.

Anyone remember these? It was a series of young adult books in the late nineties that tried to capture the audience of "scary" books like Fear Street and Goosebumps, except with a Star Wars theme. If it sounds cheesy, that's because it was, but it was also cool and weird as hell, and yes, even a little scary.

Pic related, this book was actually my first ever introduction to the EU. To buy something, as a kid who didn't know any better, because it said "Star Wars" on the cover only to find that it starred a couple random teens and Luke was only an incidental character, was a pretty weird experience and a big part of the reason why I'm still enraptured by the EU today.

There's a pretty crazy plot twist that sets up the scene on the cover, but I won't spoil it in case anyone wants to read it.

>>3910

No, that sounds mostly right to me. The "big twist" I was referring to in the OP was the revelation that the mars attacks monster on the cover is actually the same as the baby-like character the teens are protecting throughout the book. His supposed name, Eppon, is a mishearing of the name his creators gave him, "weapon."

>>3909

Jedi Apprentice is a great series not just for kids, but for anyone who likes Star Wars really, because it does a much better job of fleshing out the world and the characters of The Phantom Menace (especially Qui Gon) than Lucas ever could. Plus, they're just plain good books.

I may be making a mistake here by revealing my youth, but my mom used to read the Jedi Apprentice books to my brother and I before we went to bed.

 No.4492

I went to elementary school in a small, private school that had a "library" that was really only about 4 or 5 bookshelves, and this was the only Star Wars book they had. (This was the early 2000s, mind you, well after the book came out.) As a result, just about everyone in my class wound up reading it. Good memory.

Nowadays, I hear a lot of hate for Splinter online, usually focusing on how it's poorly written and boring. While I can understand why some people don't like his style, I can't believe there are people who think Alan Dean Foster is a bad writer. His novelization of A New Hope is still one of my favorite SW books, and manages to take a preexisting story and make it into a compelling novel of its own.

As for the supposed "boringness" of Splinter, well, it was designed to be released as a low budget film sequel if need be, after all. This hampered a lot of the creativity the book could have had. Hence why it's set entirely on a generic foggy swamp planet etc.

Who cares what Lucas intended? That has nothing to do with canocity, and it never should have. There's stuff in Star Trek: Enterprise (and probably DS9 and Voyager) explaining stuff from Star Trek TOS that Gene Roddenberry probably never thought about and/or intended, and he was dead by the time Enterprise aired. No one argues that shit isn't canon based on that premise.

Face it Lucas should be criticized for not respecting and catering to the EU in his movies in the same vein he should be criticized for altering the original movies, he's a fucking insular neurotic fuck with cognitive dissonance. It's just people tend to be ignorant about how much he gave guidelines and treated the EU as if he gave a fuck but then turned right around and disrespected it. In any other situation this behavior would be condemned, it's just people are ignorant to the specifics of it.

It was officially licensed and the only reason people called it non-canon is because people perceive books relative to a popular movie franchise a different tier as well as spergy and strawman based on some wookiepedia articles, and most of said articles are fan shit anyway even within the context of the EU. That and people thought enemies added to old NES/SNES games clearly as lazy game mechanics were somehow in the same league as a line of officially licensed and well thought out novels.

I don't even particularly think most of the EU is bad, though admittedly when I think of "The EU" I think of the New Republic era novels primarily + some of the pre-prequel pre-A New Hope stuff like those Han Solo and Lando Calrissian Adventure books. And if we're talking NJO era and onwards, at the very fucking least the Vong, Swarm War, etc. aren't autistic childish baby garbage like the stuff in the prequels and the stuff George Lucas has been peddling for over a decade now. At least the original movies kept it mostly out sans the Ewoks.

If given a binary choice, I'd gladly keep ALL the classic EU canonized, with all its flaws notwithstanding, than the desolate mostly empty Galaxy we have now. I mean honestly all the pPost too long. Click here to view the full text.
