What's your opinion of Dooku?
No.1008
>>1007I really like Dooku. Or did. The fallen Jedi that seemingly has legitimate motives for using the Dark Side and seceding from the Republic seemed awesome. He wanted to fight corruption, and was using Palpatine to do it. One of my only gripes from the Clone Wars was they just made him seem like he was so evil, without those honorable intentions. Still a really good villain, I was just excited for a grey antagonist
No.1011
>>1007I used to like him before the Clone Wars series where he was portrayed as someone who knew of the Republic's corruption and wanted to establish more stability, but then Clone Wars made him into a sadistic douchebag with no redeemable qualities, then I lost all interest in the character. Clone Wars ruined a lot of things…

No.1013
>>1012Well damn it. Still, it only proves just how much the CW series messed a lot of things up. Sure its original content was nice, but whenever they brought in something people liked or were familiar with they somehow managed to screw it up. Most notably the Pussyfist Mandalorians. Why do you think Delta Squad hardly spoke or had any major screen time? They didn't want to piss off the fans more than they already had.

>>1013>Original content was niceHa. Good one.

Dooku is probably in my top 3 Sith. The world needs more elegant not-really-villains
No.1016
He was okay.
No.1017
I liked Dooku, but he had a lot of wasted potential. If they had delved more into his character, that he honestly thought he was doing what was best for the galaxy he would be more appreciated, but he just got passed off as another temporary apprentice for Sidious.
No.1018
>>1017I feel similarly to this about a lot of things from the prequel trilogy. So many characters with great and interesting concepts that were either so poorly conveyed to the audience or otherwise misused that they just came off as boring and completely generic.
Take
>>880 this thread for instance, the first time I realized that Qui-Gon Jinn was supposed to be written as a conman Jedi with a grey sense of morality, after watching The Phantom Menace at least 20 times in my lifetime (though in retrospect, this aspect of his character is totally there in TPM, just too subtly for its own good).
No.1020
>>1007Bad idea for a character.
He undercuts the whole Anakin turning to the Dark Side thing. If Yoda's apprentice turns then why should anyone be shocked that Anakin does?
The genesis of his character is also painfully stupid. Originally the next Sith was going to be a witch but Lucas felt peoople would mistake the OT line about Vader being seduced by the Dark Side as meaning he was seduced by this Sith Witch.
btw the Sith Witch went on to become Asaji Ventress.
No.1022
>>1020Nah, man. I loved how he provided a clear counterpart to the "Sith are all utter evil and the Republic is utter good" vibe. Things like him allying with Jango partly out of regret for Galidraan make it all feel more real and human.
No.1025
>>1020Supposedly, the intention behind the villains of the prequel trilogy was that each one would foreshadow a different aspect of Darth Vader. Maul was a generic fucking menace who was trained by Sidious, Dooku was a fallen Jedi seduced by the dark side, and Grievous was an asthmatic cyborg.
Definitely one of those "it's like poetry sort of, it rhymes" things, but whether it works or just leaves you barfing in stanzas is up to the viewer.

>>1025Had never even thought of the parallels. That's really cool.
>>1022This is pretty much how I fell about the character

Either way Lucas had lost the plot by then, who knows what he was thinking.

>>1071We're getting more anons. Fuck I found it just a couple weeks ago by hand typing /starwars/ into the url on a whim, and was happy to see we already had a semi active board. I've been posting like a mad cunt ever since
I'm tempted to viral it a little on more popular boards, but I'd hate to dilute our generally pretty quality community with potential shitposters who might not know their shit re: the EU and lore
No.1076
>>1075i'm sure the board will increase in popularity and shitposting the closer we get to battlefront and e7
until then we ought to maintain a good standard for this place, i come to this board more than i go on any other site because i'm a huge star wars sperg and theforce.net is too full of retards for me to post there anymore.
also wishful thinking that filoni or someone at disney will incorporate that god-tier animated show into current canon.
No.1078
>>1076>wishful thinking that filoni or someone at disney will incorporate that god-tier animated show into current canon.Agreed, I like it much better than the CGI animated Clone Wars show, both in terms of Tartakovsky's designs and the content of the show itself.
No.1079
>>1078i like them both, but they focus on different aspects imo. tart's show was designed for two things; ep 3 hype and showing the battles of the clone wars themselves (also looping back to ANH when luke and ben discuss anakin). this is why the minimal plot aspect worked well, it was literally based around the actual fighting. tcw is allowed to breath and show what goes on behind the scenes of all the fighting. in regards to the content of the show itself that's another story and discussion for another time.

>>1075Sigh. I miss the first Clone Wars cartoon and the old canon… but you're right. If this board does get to popular it'll probably just get filled with haters who are happy that the EU is gone… Sure it wasn't all perfect, but a good large chunk of it was pure awesome.

It's a real shame he didn't kill Yoda with his Golden Gun, flee and go into hiding and become a sort of OT-era Kreia and teach Luke himself.

It always bothered me that the scene with obiwan as a captive, when he seems so honest and reveals the truth about sidious, that obiwan just scoffs all "i'll never join you". I think he would have been a much more effective character if he managed to fool them for longer.

Now I'm imagining a followup to those what-if alternate history Infinities comics for the prequels. Some examples of what they could do:
>Episode I
What if the Royal Cruiser's hyperdrive didn't break down, and Anakin was never freed from slavery to become a Jedi?
>Episode II
What if Obi-Wan listened to Dooku, becoming his apprentice and throwing a giant wrench into all of Palpatine's plans?
>Episode III
Not really sure what could be done here. Darth Vader not being mortally wounded? The Episode III video game did that one. Obi-Wan and Yoda manage to defeat Palatine and Vader, but aren't able to clear the name of the Jedi and are still considered traitors to the Republic?

So is Dooku the Solidus of Star Wars?
Big Boss = Vader?
Snake = Luke?
