What did you think of this change?
For or against?
No.1282
>>1281I always rather liked that in the original cut of ROTJ Vader became a kindly, healthy version of his older self in his afterlife. Like he got to live the life that the dark side wrested away from him in the aftermore.
But instead, no, he's back to being the whiny unkempt long-haired asshole he used to be… I'd be begging to be thrown back in the suit and brought back to life.
No.1283
Seems like Lucas was desperate to tie the Prequels and the OT together.
ROTJ was good but it wasn't a masterpiece, Lucas going back and tampering with it doesn't bother me too much.
No.1375
I don't like it. I always thought a Force ghost portrayed a Jedi as they were… well I dunno where the fuck I'm going with this, but point is old man Vader made more sense to me than xXyoungling_slayerXx.
No.1386
Lot of people hate it but I don't mind it, you either accept the prequels and go with it or completely reject them.
Now the Vader NOOOOOOOOOO thing in ROTJ I can't tolerate.
No.1388
>>1281It makes sense. The franchise seems to portray machine-human admixture as a sort of shorthand for evil. If you look at Anakin/Vader throughout the series chronologically you can see this.
>TPM: He's a bright little kid who saves the day with his plane.>ROC: Pretty much just a good guy. Loses his hand at the end.>2003 CW cartoon: Cave scene pretty much says straight out that Anakin was partially infused with the dark side when he lost his hand. Loses robo hand at the end and replaces it with a bigger one. Also that fukken badass cartoon Grievous.>ROS: Goes full bad guy. Loses all his limbs and capacity to breathe at the end, receives robotic prosthetics. Becomes Darth Vader for reals.>ANH: "More machine than man now." Just sort of a generic, personality-free bad guy.>ESB: See Vader without a mask on sometimes, he develops a human side for the viewer to see.>ROJ: Rejects the artificial enhancements (breathing is for fags) and finally becomes a good guy in time to die. Also Luke has a robo-hand in this ep and he kinda flirts with the dark side a little himself. It makes sense that they would use an image of Anakin that was from before he had a bunch of artificial prothetics when you realize that those prosthetics are supposed to represent inhumanity and the dark side.

it's hard to explain this sort of thing to the retards on youtube.

>>1402Should we be bothered that the Clone Wars series made us look more human? On one hand we actually look like we're living beings with souls and personalities, on the other hand we posses this trait yet still seem to pretend the end of this war will be good for us and that we actually have a free will which makes us look like real jerks for still doing Order 66.

No.1414
>>1408The Clone Wars series retconned that into them not being loyal, they just had a biochip in their brains that made them into zombies that constantly spouted "good soldiers follow orders". TCW retconned shit right and left, even stuff from the movies and crap within their own show.

It's stupid because Obi-Wan and Yoda are still old! If you really have to go back and fuck with stuff, at least have some consistency and put Ewan McGregor in there too.
No.1918
>>1772And CGI Yoda :^)
I think it works like that, I mean, Obi and Yoda were with the light side all the while. so it only makes sense to restore Anakin to his former self, when he was with the light.
No.1924
I'm not a fan of retro-actively changing films.
But, the Anakin force ghost isn't particular interesting to me. I understand why Lucas did it, and from a standpoint of watching all 6 movies at once it makes sense.
Like I said though, not a fan of changing things in the future. The movies were already good.
No.1965
>>1924How does it make sense? Why is his ghost self so young? Just at the time he became evil?
No.1998
Was never really bothered by this at all, or any of the changes in the special editions/DVDs/Blu-rays really. Though Lucas going out of his way to try and prevent anyone from ever seeing the original cuts of the movie is pretty fucking shitty.
No.2085
Imagine you were watching this film back in 1983 and after everything that happened, instead of watching old man Anakin as it was, you instead see some young guy instead of him. How would you feel? The young guy is someone you wouldn't recognize as Anakin as instantly as you would have with Sebastian Shaw.
No.2090
eh it grew on me. Old guy I didn't recognize.
No.2123
>>2085It pretty much fits with Obi-Wan's statement that Anakin Skywalker ceased to exist when he fell to the dark side and became Darth Vader. Though best way of handling this change would have been first showing the older Sebastian Shaw Anakin ghost first, then fading that one out replacing him with the younger Anakin.
