What's everyone's take on them getting rid of the EU? At first I was pretty pissed about it, but then I reealized it got rid of all the really dumb shit like the Yuuzhan Vong. Totally worth it.

 No.30

My first thought was that Disney wasn't going to care about existing lore and was going to shit all over it. But then I realized the extended universe was already shit. Anyone could have written any book and get it published, and it would then become cannon. Each new source would overwrite the previous if there was a contradiction. This is what I blame on getting midichlorians.

Maybe now there will be consistency. But honestly, Star Wars has been whored onto me so much that anything new out of the IP has to be really good for me to care.

 No.31

Eh. The only EU I gave two shits for was the Thrawn series (and Asyr Sei'lar flipping her shit). Thrawn returning and kicking the shit out of New Republic was a perfect in for a new trilogy. Meh.

Tell Disney we'll give the Jar Jar if they let us keep Thrawn.

>ja trilogy
>bh wars

all of these are now classified as non-canon, although sote technically stays in since the outrider was put into anh

also, death troopers was great. i know it's overkill with zombies and all, but the way it was presented made logical sense and that cameo made the second half of the book great. a l4d mod based on it would be the tits.

No, that just means that YT-2400s still exist. Even if it was the Outrider, it could have a completely different pilot.

I don't understand what the new policy is. I guess Star Wars was in need of a reboot, but I still hope they go back through it and promote some fan favorites to canon such as KOTOR and Thrawn. They should have the lore guy talk to fans and discuss what to keep.

Basically, so they wouldn't have to deal with trying to fit a new series of movies in the convoluted EU timeline, they removed everything from canon that wasn't the 6 movies. From that point on new media would be made with the new canon in mind. Rebellion is the first new canon thing they've made since the policy change.

Anyone who complains about this is a whiny baby

the EU was complete shit, they should have decanonized the prequels while they were at it

I thought the Legacy comics were dope, I know that they were goofy but Krayt rejecting the rule of two and making his "Rule of One" seemed pretty bad ass to me.
Also, my favourite scene from Star Wars (in any media) is when Boba Fett gets those gauntlets made for Han Solo so he can strangle his own child. The only reason I'm upset about EU being gone is because that scene is gone essentially.

Holy shit. When did that happen?

Legacy of the Force: Sacrifice.

After Jacen kills Mara, Boba Fett gets them made by this legendary blacksmith as a gift of condolence for Han Solo. I got a mandalorian tattoo basically because of this scene.

I agree that wiping the EU is going to get rid of a lot of retarded shit, but I also think the EU feels more like Star Wars to me than most official Star Wars cannon outside of the original trilogy. I've spent so much more time investing myself in the books and games than I have in the movies or television series (even the good movies) that getting rid of all that pretty much rids me of whatever interest I have in anything new they produce. I'll continue to enjoy the original trilogy forever, and I might even give JJ Abrams a chance to prove himself with the new Trilogy (which would require him directing a good feature film for the first time in his career), but if that doesn't pan out I think Star Wars is going to become less of a current interest for me and more of a relic of my youth. I'm not going to protest it or whatever, just drift away. I was outgrowing it anyway, but it still kind of makes me sad, especially since there is no way Disney is going back to the kind of Star Wars games I actually liked.

>>30
This isn't exactly true. (The anyone could write any book and get it published part, not the shit part.) I'm not sure what Lucas' position was early on in the EU, but during the 90s renaissance post-Thrawn trilogy Lucasfilm had a pretty strong grasp on continuity and what could and could not be published. Lucas himself had to approve major story changes such as character deaths, and had veto power over plot points he didn't like. That still let some shit slip through, but EU continuity wasn't the free for all you say it was. This got even less true after the Lucasbooks transition, after which the books were almost more a product of the Lucasbooks editorial team than the individual authors. Which only led to more shit, but still. It wasn't due to a lack of control over the timeline. The comic books may have been a bit less consistent, and the games less consistent still, but the books at least tried to keep everything coherent. Shitty at times, but coherent.

 No.251

I loved the EU up until they killed Jacen Solo. I threw the book down in disgust, and never picked up another new one again.
It felt like such a cheap cop out for Star Wars.

The entire arc of Jacen going dark felt out of character compared to previous EU renditions of his personality, but really he had been inconsistent since Lucasbooks decided to flip the personalities of Jacen and Anakin Solo at the start of New Jedi Order. Really, the last two big post-EU arcs boiled down to a 'How much of the EU can we kill off?' contest.

A piece of shit move by Disney.
They did this shit to appease normalfags and shitty Star Wars fan. Fucking hell, the EU was great for all the content it had in it. Comprehensive, interesting and creative.

New films are already going to be non canon. I'm already not looking forward to them.
I'll watch this next film and it will be the decider of whether or not I stay a fan.

Fuck you, you are the cancer in the fanbase and everyone like you.

They're already reincorporating a ton of stuff from the EU into canon.

I wouldn't be surprised if Rebels made characters like Thrawn canon.

That Rebels garbage can burn. I'm not interested in reinvesting myself with a whole new Disney defined canon.

disney doesn't have as much of a hand in rebels canon as you might think. filoni is a hard sw nerd and knows what shit floats and what doesn't, the motherfucker came so close to making revan canon, and i expect him to go just as hard with rebels. here's to hoping we get kyle katarn as an imperial agent.
