No.1741
I've never heard a good explanation as to why the Republic doesn't just wipe Korriban off the face of the Galaxy - either right after the Jedi Civil War or at any other time between it and Palpatine's ascension. It is completely useless and survives only due to plot armor. The only argument I've heard is that the Republic is too "good" to ever annihilate an entire planet.
However, there are some issues with this:
1) Korriban does not support any sentient beings - the only reason the Republic cares about destroying worlds is because of the population, and Korriban is lacking one.
2) Korriban is not an exporter of a critical substance and does not lie on a major hyperspace route.
3) Korriban is a dark side nexus and has repeatedly been shown to be instrumental in turning many Jedi and others to the dark side. This has caused much pain and many wars for the Republic.
There are many others, but I felt that these are the main reasons that the Republic (and, to an even greater extent the Jedi Order,) *should* have destroyed Korriban
So, why exactly do you guys think that Korriban was spared during all the years it could have been destroyed?
PS: Fuck Moraband/Morriban, that shit's gay.

One possibility is that since often Republic officials don't believe in the force and believe it nothing more than tricks, they think the whole dark side nexus thing is just Jedi mumbo-jumbo and don't bother with it.

>>1742What? Other than the quip in ANH when Admiral Motti displays a lack of faith (pun) in the Force, why would *any* Republic official doubt its existence/ramifications on their lives? You can't ignore Darth Revan almost conquering the Republic, you can't ignore thousands of Jedi, you can't ignore powers like force lightning, and you sure can't ignore the impact that religious zealots have on the greater galaxy.

I can't imagine that blowing up one large darkside nexus into quadrillion small darkside infused object would be a good idea.

Either way though if Korriban is referenced in future movies it's going to be Moraband.
To the question the real world answer is that Lucas didn't canonize Moraband until late in the game and blowing up a planet of spirits ain't going to do much too them I don't think. Surface was already destroyed by a prior conflict.

after darth bane's shenanigans korriban became a waste of space essentially. it would be more work to blow the fucker up and deal with the repercussions of its moons veering off into other planets than to leave it be for what it was, a big fat graveyard.

In SWTOR the Republic was working on weapons to do things like that, but it all gets shut down because it goes against the Republic's core beliefs

Of course, the fuckers would probably find that to be a dark side nexus in itself or some such shit…

I think it serves as a reminder to the Republic and the Jedi that for like the 1000th time that the evil such as the sith did exist and that we should never go as low as they did with thier slavery and willingness to be bitches to the dark side
