 No.1962

So casual Star Wars fan here, I need some help here.

So about that new storm trooper in the movie trailer. I'm some what confused. Aren't the storm troopers supposed to be clones left over from the days of the old Republic? And all the clones were based on Jango Fetts DNA, right?

So who is this black dude and where did he come from.

 No.1967

storm troopers are recruited from the population, clone troopers are short lived so by the time of the original trilogy they have been completely replaced

in ANH lukes friend biggs goes off to join the rebels while most people are being conscripted into the empire, didn't make it into the film but one of biggs scenes is in the special edition and it was in the novel, the original screenplay and also the radio play

 No.1975

He is the son of the black x-wing pilot in return of the jedi

 No.1976

Also, it's implied that Han Solo may have worked for the Empire at one point, as a pilot.

>>1967
This. If a storm trooper was 20 biological years of age at the time of ROTS, then by ANH he would be 37. And this is a long time after ANH

 No.1985

In the 501st journals it is said that Clones were clone'd from a variety of templates after the kamino rebellion

 No.1987

>>1979
Don't forget that they age twice as fast.

 No.1990

>>1985

not to mention that almost the entire 501st was killed in the battle of yavin, and considering that by the time of anh the 501st was basically the only clone legion left, all others died or retired from service.

Uh, wasn't Han Solo's story ALWAYS him having been a pilot (or officer IIRC) for the Empire, and that's how he met Chewie?

This is a big part of the reason why I never really liked Clone Troopers to begin with. Tying the Republic warriors to the Mandalorians was a neat idea that the EU managed to do some interesting things with, but the actual purpose of the Clone Troopers in the prequel trilogy - to give the Stormtroopers from the original trilogy a backstory - is a completely moot point by the time the OT actually comes around.

 No.2002

>>1962
The Stormtroopers were meant to be clones, Lucas says this specifically in the ROTS making of material.

By the time of the original trilogy they use different sources for the clones.

Lucas later changed this with the series Rebels to be like that >>1967

 No.2004

lol wat is canon

>>1985
>never happened

>>1990
>again never happened

>>2002
It's possible there were still some clones left in the Stormtrooper ranks but they'd all be old veterans most likely training the cadets.

>Lucas changed this with the series Rebels

Lucas didn't make Rebels. Rebels is Filoni and Disney.

OT Stormtroopers have never been clones and any speculation otherwise is not canon

Fucking casuals never bothering to learn about the wonders of the EU… sniff…

>thinks we're just going along with disney's handwaving jewdom

regardless there would no longer be clones by the time of TFA

>>1975
Now that's interesting.

 No.2300

>>2001
The ACTUAL actual purpose of the clone troopers was to make Luke's line "You fought in the Clone Wars?" to Ben in ANH make sense.

Then why make the clones an obvious prototype for Stormtroopers, implying there's some kind of important relationship between the two? Why not just make them weird clone things, hell, maybe even weird monster clone things that fought for the other side? In fact, weren't there some EU materials that depicted the Clone Wars that way before the prequel trilogy even existed?

I have no qualm against clone troopers, I think they're cool. I just think it's needlessly confusing that they were pushed as some kind of prototype for the Stormtroopers when their sole defining trait - being clones - wound up not even applying to the Stormtroopers at all. A war that involved clones could have been shown without doing that.

well the shit had to come from somewhere

might as well tie it in

on top of that, you're dismissing the fact that at one point every soldier was boba fett

how fucking cool is that, and here you go waiving your dick all around saying "no that's lame everything is lame hey look at my dick instead"

fack off m8

But I said I liked clone troopers.

It's just a quirk of the canon that probably sets my 'tism off more than anything should lol.
