The eu was a treasure trove of countless stories that expanded on the mythos of franchise. So if you didn't feel happy with the movies or cartoons, you could always have the eu to give you some great works. Sure not all of it was perfect but it certainly had more than enough goodness to go around and enough mythos and creative ideas to be used in countless film ideas and series.
