Not when it comes to film master prints, it really wouldn't have been difficult. Though I suppose it would depend on if Fox held on to them once the original theatrical runs were done, or handed them over to Lucas because they don't own Star Wars.

I'd recommend anyone try and find the 2006 Limited edition DVDs. They come with the 1997 special editions on one disc and the original UNALTERED theatrical editions on the second disc.

You can't unfuck the DVD/bluray no matter how hard you try. You can cut out the worst offenders, but ultimately the colours are still fucked and the only good backup footage is from the japanese laserdiscs and GOUT. the only way forward is the negative1 35mm scan.

Story of my life when I got the Special edition DVDs

Was 9 back then, last time I had seen the originals, it was on vhs a couple of years before

Remembered the story/lore, but I had vague memories of the movies themselves.

I was turbo confused at all those CG edits, and the young anakin face had my mom who doesn't care about star wars let out an audible "What the fuck is that"
