First, the CG Clone Wars series actually gets really good after the second season. The new Rebels show from the same people is also off to a good start so far.

Second, the best bits of the EU are being reintroduced into the new canon.

Third, you leave out all of the garbage EU stories and content that is now thankfully no longer canon. For every great storyline or character that can later be resurrected, there are at least 5 shitty ones that can now forever be forgotten and ignored.

>First, the CG Clone Wars series actually gets really good after the second season. The new Rebels show from the same people is also off to a good start so far.

Well personally I never liked the prequel era just thematically and artistically, personal taste I admit. It never "felt" like the Star Wars I liked - and interestingly, it's not JUST that the prequels blow as movies, it's the feel and aesthetics of them. Art direction etc. It's the reason I loved the classic EU even when it got cheesy. The new Clone Wars and Rebel cartoons at least /look/ like autistic baby garbage on an artistic level. I've actually been the biggest fan of the Rebellion and post-ROTJ EU more than anything.

>Second, the best bits of the EU are being reintroduced into the new canon.

Oh? The Rogue Squadron series? Thrawn Trilogy? Who said they're going to be re-introduced? Source? I can live without the Yuuzhan Vong but at least they weren't childish and executed poorly. I didn't actually mind them, but I didn't care for them ether.

To be fair Clone Wars was pretty garbage form the premier "movie" actually just three episodes badly edited together and thrown into theaters because Lucas demanded it through the entire first season. The show started drastically improving once Lucas lost interest in the project and the people behind it started doing their own thing. I'm not a huge fan of the art style either, but the characters and stories are well done so I can get past it. Both shows also manage to get pretty dark at times.

>Who said they're going to be re-introduced? Source?

Have you actually been paying attention to new stuff that has been coming out? Old EU elements are being re-canonized with every new thing that comes out. The Chiss for instance are canon again thanks to some stupid mobile game, which also brought back Dark Troopers as well. Delta Squad are canon thanks to Clone Wars, and Rebels has had references to all kinds of EU stuff just in its first season.

>I can live without the Yuuzhan Vong but at least they weren't childish and executed poorly.

Are you fucking kidding me? The Vong were the single most poorly executed thing in the entire EU and basically are what ruined Post-ROTJ forever.

The problem with that is, well, what does it mean? For example the "canon" article on Wookiepedia for the AT-PT just exists because it was in some relatively recent game made post Disney's decision to nuke the EU. Does that mean the Katana Fleet is real, and therefore Heir to the Empire is real because that's where they first appeared? See the problem here?

I feel like those classic stories will only be real if they essentially reimagine/remake them (which if done right and 90% the same I could perhaps deal with) or just change their minds and decide they're canon. Why didn't Disney just roll with "The EU is canon sans any contradictory decision we make." They could probably have done minimal effort to make the upcoming movie fit in with most of the post-ROTJ EU sans the Yuuzhan Vong.

>Are you fucking kidding me? The Vong were the single most poorly executed thing in the entire EU and basically are what ruined Post-ROTJ forever.

Elaborate?

Honestly I'd be happy if the Truce at Bakura, X-Wing Series, Thrawn Trilogy, Dark Empire, Corellian Trilogy, Black Fleet Crisis, etc. were canon. Yuuzhan Vong and after I can live without just fine. I like the old Adventures of Lando Calrissian stuff too. Jedi Academy had some cool stuff in it too. Really, I don't care about the constant re-use of superweapons. Really? I like that dumpy oldschool insanity of Star Wars. I never had an issue with it.

 No.4146

Oh yeah, Han Solo at Star's End. I always liked the Corporate Sector.

Things are slow going for now because the new movies obviously aren't out yet. Post-ROTJ has pretty much been a no-go area for the new canon for now. As soon as Episode VII establishes the bare bones of what happened between Episode VI and VII I'm sure we will see the most popular old EU stories remade/re-imaged to fit.

 No.4150

>>4148

What's actually depressing to me is I'm sure they could work the bulk of the pre-Yuuzhan Vong EU into the framework of the new movie with relatively low effort, but on the other hand it's presumptuous to assume they'd ever care. The sweeping delegitimization of the EU was mostly out of laziness.

 No.4151

>>4150

It is impossible to say until Episode VII is actually out and whatever changes they intended for Post-ROTJ are established. Now personally I don't like why they threw out all pre-movies Old Republic EU as well, now that could have effortlessly coexisted with the new canon by virtue of how disconnected from everything else it was.

Even if he was in the game that doesn't mean the media that created Kyle Katarn would be considered canon, unless they reference the story around him offhand.

I've noticed the Rebel TV show is making canon a few things from the old EU. One thing I noticed were some vehicle designs like the AT-AR have made an appearance.

While I wouldn't remain hopeful, it does seem like they are looking into bringing some at least interesting stuff back from the EU.

The show has had dark moments so far, like Tarkin having those two goofy, incompetent Imperial Officers who had featured in most episodes executed on screen in the season finale. but I can't see them getting THAT dark.

 No.4292

I agree, I wish they would've let the pre-movies Old Republic EU remain canon as well. I can only guess the reason for that being is because the writers have plans for the galaxy's past before the establishment of the old republic in the sequel trilogy. Who knows, maybe if episodes VII-IX end up not contradicting anything from the Knights of the Old Republic Era, they'll reinstate it as canon once the sequel trilogy is over and/or everything within the new canon is straighten out. The canon versions of certain Wookieepedia articles are lacking compared to their legends counterparts.

>>4288

I'll take my chances and wait until the film comes out before I decide whether it'll be good or shit. Wasn't one of the reasons why the prequels sucked in the first place because George Lucas had full creative control (as in being the writer as well as producer and director) without anyone else being there to reign him in as a natural form of quality control? To me, George Lucas seems to do better when he's collaborating with others than he is at leading a creative process. Though I will only remain cautiously optimistic.

 No.4442

>>4137

Dark Empire might be awesome, but it's not "mature." The whole clone Sheev thing is pretty dumb, actually, and I'm glad it's excised from canon as it fucked with the nice ending we got in ROTJ.

I am pretty sad that the pillars of the new "unified canon" are being built by TV shows explicitly aimed toward pandering to children, but at least they're done by people who live Star Wars and have a respect for aspects of the old EU >>4176

They'd bring back all the good stuff, only thing I'm hoping for right now is that Ep VII doesn't do any kind of bullshit that will make the old canon completely incompatible with the new canon. Fucking Disney.

I think it's blatantly obvious there's going to be massive contradictions. Firstly obviously the Yuuzhan Vong aren't canon. no question. And my feeling is this, they'd just look at the Yuuzhan Vong and at the very minimal lazily throw out/disregard all post-ROTJ lore. I don't think they'd take the time to delineate once they saw the Vong.

The main books are right after the Battle of Endor and Truce at Bakura. What used to be the last book took place after the Thrawn trilogy. The new end book for the series picks up during the Fate of the Jedi series.

I have to admit I love a lot of stuff in the EU, both good and bad, but the Yuuzhan Vong never really hit home for me. I just never really liked the fact about how they did so much damage to the galaxy and made the rebels' victory feel so empty and pointless. At best they could work better as like villains in a series rather than comic or novel.

New Republic still exists

http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/New_Republic/Canon

My guess is that this "Resistance" faction will a splinter continuation of the Rebel Alliance that operates within Imperial Remnant/First Order held territories, while the New Republic has a peace treaty akin to the Bastion Accords in the old EU.
