I'm re-reading the Thrawn Trilogy (haven't read them in about 8 years). Let's discuss them.

Interesting note: All references to Vader and others are "Dark Jedi" and not sith. When exactly did the word Sith enter the vocabulary? I know games like Jedi Knight had the word Sith (Mysteries of the Sith), so it emerged somewhere in the mid 90s.

Sith was there from the start in the original scripts for Star Wars.

Fist official use was in the 1977 Star Wars novel which stated that Darth Vader was a "dark lord of the sith".

Chiss aren't canon right now.

Though it's only a matter of time before Rebels adds them I think.

I really don't give a fuck what Disney does regarding canon. Same as I never gave a fuck what Lucas considered canon.

Okay. So why do you think this book uses Dark Jedi? Just Zahn's tastes?

It's possible Lucas had the idea of the Sith rule of two back when he was overseeing Zahn's writing.

Also the EU had some odd ideas about the Sith didn't they?
They were an alien race or something.

an alien race, the original natives of korriban that were eventually bred out by exiled jedi

Bump.

Almost through with Heir to the Empire. I think what I've enjoyed most about re-reading this book is how flawlessly it tells multiple different stories through different characters perspectives. It is mostly based on character dialogue rather than pure character thought.

There's a Chiss in the clone wars cartoon. They are canon.

That's some other alien race that looks very similar.

They haven't added the Chiss yet I don't think.

I too am curious as to whether "Sith" was some kind of universe bible material thing prior to the prequels, or just something that managed to creep into the 1977 novelization without ever being acknowledged anywhere else. Having not read any pre-1999 EU material aside from said novelization, I'm not much help on this issue, sadly.

On topic, I hope to rectify the above by reading the Thrawn trilogy soon.

Actually, in the Star Wars Rebels concept art, there are renderings of Agent Kallus as a Chiss instead of a Human…perhaps a knowing nod to Thrawn, I don't know…but who knows what will happen down the line…I mean the Inquisitors are confirmed, and another throwback to the EU
>tfw the Holonet in the show says "another successful planetary liberation utilizing the Base Delta Zero Initiative…a great victory for the Empire XD"
>tfw Base Delta Zero
>tfw "liberated"
>tfw that planet is now a smoldering pile of slag
>tfw Palpatine confirmed for pimp

The concept of the Sith- as others have noted- has been around almost since the beginning, but, iirc, they weren't fleshed out as a specific entity until the Tales of the Jedi comics of the mid-90s, and even that depiction is pretty far from what they would become in later titles.

Dude…that was the first time they teased BDZ…but they teased it again when the group seized secret Imperial military plans
>the plans appear in hologram text
>the language is Aurebesh
>fans translated the 3 pronounced big letters
>it translates to "BDZ - ACCESS DENIED"
>tfw it takes only 1 Star Destroyer to carry out a BDZ
>tfw there are 6 orbiting Lothal (the majority of season takes place in)
>tfw Space 'Murica might just unleash 10 million kilotons of FUCK YOU on Lothal on live tv in season 2 of Rebels
>tfw

OP here. Almost done with The Last Command. This novel is arguably the weakest in the trilogy, although its focus on Mara is nice.
