It was a dumb idea for Anakin to have built 3PO, if anything Anakin should have built R2D2 and the protocol droid should have belonged to Padme.
Anakin being a robot builder didn't even lead into anything, if he had built his own Darth Vader suit it would have been ok but apparently it was an off the shelf robot suit.
