Serious question: Are there really people who have been playing Runescape since the early or mid 2000s that still enjoy it?
Anonymous 04/05/15 (Sun) 15:29:14 ae1070 No. 11392
>>11390 I think the word "enjoy" is a bit of a too strong word.
Try "addicted".
I for example made my character in 2005 (or 4, cant remember too well) and i play it in bursts.
Like, i get a sudden urge to play and then play almost daily for around a month, then i lose my interest again and go play something else until the urges come back.

>>11386 >What the fuck happened? Jagex is trying to make RS3 "social". They hold a bunch of ingame events with jmods and contests on twitter/kikebook. They're even trying to appeal to exp whores by addindg portable exp nodes and jmod exclusive items at the ingame events. I dont exactly see it as a bad thing, but it's not for me.

>>11392 But to be fair, I do generally enjoy it. I wont bore you with details, but my clan is a big reason I still play EOCscape. It's more about the people than the game at this point.
Anonymous 04/05/15 (Sun) 18:03:37 ae1070 No. 11422
>>11420 Yeah, i think it was always about people.
Back in the days folks were generally speaking more helpful and even more gullible.
Now we got tons of people who are like your average players from every other MMO, scared to speak, always afraid that someone is out to scam them of their small fortunes they have made while playing or a troll or griefer or something else.
Like, this other day when i decided to be nice for folks and give them free stuff, guess what happened?
Out of the 15 or so people 8 accepted my gifts (well i had only 8 gifts), with nearly half of these people not even saying thanks, or thx, or even ty and one of these guys asked me if i was a scammer (like one would have answered to that truthfully) before accepting my gift.
The rest ran away, walked away, teleported away, logged out or just ignored me and walked off.

>>11443 It all comes down to making things more convenient over time. That's all people whine for. Works that way with every MMO. People who were playing since day 1 get tired of doing things and the more tedious social stuff seems more stupid to them as time progresses. I haven't played Runescape in forever, but the word was they went full on WoW clone or something.
Always that rush to be more WoW as WoW peels away every social interaction. It's garbage now with a world that feels small and NPCs who are petheticly weak. No danger, no sense of accomplishment until raiding. And everyone still tries to copy it. Now since that game is full on, "Social interaction is for plebs CHECK MUH SELFIES", expect every other MMO to get immensely worse for it.

>>11449 I just realized how we sound like some old guys talking about "Back in my youth we had to walk 20 miles uphill to get to the nearest store and normally we walked all that, unless our neighbors were heading to the store as well and we could hitch a ride in their cart".
Anonymous 04/06/15 (Mon) 19:05:54 79e766 No. 11636
>>11604 It's a really weird feeling isn't it. It doesn't feel that long ago that I was like 3 years old playing Kirby's Dreamland on my Gameboy Pocket.
Anyway, I pretty much stopped playing RS3 after coming back to Runescape because I hadn't played for a couple of years. I pretty much stopped not too long after playing. It just wasn't the same.
Anonymous 04/06/15 (Mon) 20:36:45 1caac8 No. 11648
>>11604 Well, hell, it's all down to how far people take instant gratification. I bet gramps felt really good about getting his 2 cent gumballs when he had to go on a trek and a half for them. Getting gum at the store down the block is convenient, but the time investment is too small. We don't think twice about it and say, "Why the hell would I want to spend hours and all that energy JUST to get to a store?" and now we're older and people say to us, "Why the hell would I want to spend so much time just to get to max level?"
Because it took so fucking long and felt good at the end of it. Then again, Everquest players would probably shit on me, each chain backwards shits on the next.

>>11604 I went through a small existential crisis when i decided to log into RS3, heard about veteran flags and went to get one.
Realized i could get the ten year vet cape and after that i was just about broken.
The whole realization just flooded over me, that it had been 10 years since i started that character on a computer class in high school, that it had been ten years since i first started trekking to the forests between draynor and lumbridge and it hit me hard as i checked through my friends list and saw all of my highschool friends names being turned into error messages…

When 07scape came out, my friend and I jumped on. It was tons of fun and I would still be playing now, but my friend just stopped playing after about five months. I have a hard time playing RS alone. My goals just go away without anyone to talk about them with.

I've played from 2001-2004. Are the 1 day items from that period still worth an insane amount of money? I have 5-6 party hats, halloween masks of each color and something else I can't remember the name of.

We didn't really care. We tried it earlier this year and it just felt iffy. I don't know if I just can't get myself to grind that much or what but it seems like all the charm has gone.
