It's either terminal for F-Zero or an indication that they're trying to prepare casuals to know how to approach F-Zero. It's kind of a glass half-empty or half-full type thing.

I'd say half-empty has about an 80% chance of being right, but I think Nintendo is aware that there is some fan demand.

Id love to see a new f-zero, but I dont think big N is going to make one with MK around.

It's an unorthodox idea, but I'd have to agree. Even if Nintendo somehow managed to match or exceed the quality of GX, I can't say that I have faith in them to not implement some kind of paywall in the form of DLC or Amiibos, and while a single-player-focused action game would likely still have Amiibo functionality, it would likely be just a minor bonus, rather than substantial content like Splatoon's Amiibo-locked mission mode and unique costumes (which I think is notable considering Splatoon's huge focus on cosmetic items).

On the one hand I can't really say abandoning F-Zero is a good thing; even if I'm not particularly a fan of the franchise I know from experience with Star Fox what it's like when some sort of bad shit keeps happening to a series you like. On the other hand, if it isn't what >>10577 said, then they might at least be attempting to let the spirit of F-Zero live on somewhat through Mario Kart.

I don't see your logic there. It's not like Nintendo has abandoned all of their less famous franchises. Pikmin got a new game for Wii U, Star Fox is getting one, I don't see why F-Zero can't.

The last Chibi-Robo game was released last year on the 3DS e-shop. I don't think it really counts as abandoned.
