/svidya/ is a strict /v/ alternative for moderated vidya discussion. This Board wasn't intended to replace /v/ but to aid Anon's in having vidya discussions with zero shitposters. Thanks for adding /svidya/ to /v/'s recommended boards, Mark.

What's the strictest videogame you've ever played? A game that just holds your hand every step of the way and squashes any attempt you make at exploration, messing around or thinking for yourself?

Damn, this was gonna be my answer.

Played it on release on the 360. I got 3 fucking disks in before I gave up out of boredom from doing nothing but going in a straight line.

3fad65 No.11798

>>11797
So 13 has no redeeming qualities? Is it really just a straight line with cut scenes?

a40eae No.11800

>>11798

Yup. You can't even control your party members. You can only switch the party style with some dumb paradigm system.

Playing this right now and holy shit you're right. I think I may actually be stuck because I tried to sequence break.

582c5f No.11829

>>11828
Well, correction. Not even sequence breaking, but trying to explore rather than follow it's strict 'go from point A to point B' format.

I'm not sure if you can actually get stuck attempting to go off the rails, but the game does try to gimp exploration so hard that even if you manage to fight a boss out of order, not only do doors not get unlocked but you won't even get the plasma beam or space jump or whatever. Instead, the game tells you that you've unlocked whatever the last level of doors is that you've unlocked. Bosses beaten early actually respawn until you beat them again at the intended time.

When you weren't doing the godawful beacon quests, this game would force you to go down only 1 path and would even kill you if you went off the map (much like most CoD/Battlefield story modes)

>Although the actor has not filed for bankruptcy, he recently appeared in court to ask a judge to reduce his alimony payments to his ex-wife. Fraser stated he is not able to afford to make the payments, which totaled $900,000 per year. Ex-wife, Afton Smith, accused Fraser of hiding contracts which guaranteed income, but Fraser counteracted her accusation by stating the contracts were not finalized. Fraser also explained his recent financial difficulties were due to an injury he suffered during Hurricane Sandy. Fraser stated he hurt his back while attempting to remove a tree from his home, and the injury he suffered could cause a drastic reduction in his income.

Plotwise, yes, but OP is talking about gameplay.

I'm playing Jak and Daxter and it's getting on my nerves how much the game tries to guide me. All the world's inhabitants give me tips on how to beat stuff and it really interferes with the atmosphere of the game. Whenever I do one thing wrong or take my time Daxter shouts where I'm supposed to go or how to attack an enemy's weak spot. Shame that such good level design is tainted by this.

Despite this being a troll thread, let's turn this shit into diamonds. Isn't the Stanley Parable essentially hand-hold: the game? From what I read it seems trying to do anything other than what you are assigned just causes bad things to happen.

Why the fuck do you retards think this is a troll thread. It's a genuine question about overly linear games with too much handholding. I just decided to use the word 'strict' as a nod to the theme of this board. It's my favourite board you downsies.

792fab No.13559

>>13554
Are you trying to troll there or are you just genuinely retarded?

Stanley Parable is one of the best "art" games out there because it's actually really funny and uses the medium in which it's in to narrate. Not tell a story, mind you, because it's not a story. There's narrative, there's events and occurrences, but no real plot.

Anyway your post is gr8 b8 m8
