/svidya/ is a strict /v/ alternative for moderated vidya discussion. This Board wasn't intended to replace /v/ but to aid Anon's in having vidya discussions with zero shitposters. Thanks for adding /svidya/ to /v/'s recommended boards, Mark.

I'm reposing this on /svidia/ because I didn't get much or a response on /v/. I think I'd have a better discussion here anyway.

I see a lot of anons bitching about let's plays and/or the lack of gameplay videos. I've wanted to start a website for awhile so I was wondering if there was any interest in.

Gameplay footage for entire games start to finish WITHOUT voice overs of any kind.

video walkthroughs of either A levels/missions or certain concepts (gameplay mechanics, exploits, ect) Voice overs would be extremely rare.

Or possibly other stuff based on community feedback. Stuff would be clearly labeled. Videos would be high quality (no elgato or HDPVR garbage) and recorded on Original hardware whenever possible. Would anyone care? possibly even contribute in some way? I don't want to use youtube because of all the copyright bullshit. Any tips regarding that stuff if I do go through with it?

I prefer videogame footage with commentary when it comes to a LP.

Any examples?

ChristopherOdd is the only LPer I can watch. No facecam, no obnoxious cunt screaming. He's just a guy playing video games and talking about the game while playing it.

Check YongPlays for example.

Would you be willing to watch these videos outside of youtube? like I said in the OP I don't want to deal with copyright shit. If not what content would need to be added for that to happen.

There's loads of these around on Youtube. You just need to attach 'no commentary' to your searches. Sometimes LPers will release two versions - one with a voice over and one without - but usually it's people dedicated to one or the other.

This is in fact the exact sort of thing I have always done with my own youtube channel.

Fuck "Let's Plays".

I can watch a video if it's accessible and works.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I will definitely post another thread when I have something up and running.

Voice overs actually help to avoid copyright issue if I'm not mistaken.
I'd like the idea OP but it might be more difficult than you think.

Besides, you could always film a video, have a nonVoice over part, then go back and add commentary to certain sections that are optional to whoever wants it.

I will think about that. There were a few things I thought would be cool to do, but I was a little discouraged when all the other anons complained about commentary. Maybe I will do both and use the footage from the walkthroughs in the other projects.

This is actually a really interesting idea.

A voice actress I know is rather annoyed at the Lets Play trend because every time she goes on Youtube to check out how her performance sounds in a newly released game or demo, she can't hear herself over some guy screaming in a high-pitched voice.

Occasionally they can be useful, like if the person playing is giving tips or insight into the game. And some Lets Players can be quite entertaining, in moderation. But sometimes, you just wanna be able to see/hear the damn game.

I really like the "optional commentary" idea. Imagine a site where you could just turn the commentator's voice on and off like you can with those obnoxious annotations on Youtube.

I like this idea too but I feel that one or the other would be lacking if I did it. Like there might be a moment where a commentator would linger on some object, without the voice over it might not make sense because the visual was part of some joke or fact. Maybe it wont be an issue if the content is carefully crafted. How long could this go for before company's start going after me? Is the some loop-hole I could use to get around it? hosting in a different in somewhere in Europe?

A site like that already exists. http://www.longplays.org

Maybe I'm just retarded but it seems like they don't host videos, most of the links I used lead to archive.org. The video quality seems to vary from video to video, most of it is not up to par with what I want. The community seems active though, surprising since the pending submission page has uploads waiting as far back as 2014. overall the site seems a bit janky, and it's exclusively longplays while I'd like to expand to other stuff down the line.

uhm, teres stuff like that , check "World of Longplyas" on youtube

Was about to say that.
LPs without commentary are called Longplay and have existed before Let's Play.

There are already thousands of longplays on YT.

I find it very disappointing that a lot of the arcade game videos associated with this use blatant cheats.
