Telltale & Adventure Games Anonymous 04/09/15 (Thu) 16:30:20 60e9c1 No. 12474
I haven't played any of Telltale's adventure games past Sam & Max, but one thing I've found in common between those episodes, Tales of Monkey Island, and it's later titles, is the dark and edgy tone. Now I really enjoyed their adaptations of LucasArts properties. They both had pretty slow starts, but picked up in humor and fun. Then near the end they got pretty dark, which diverged sharply from their predecessors. After that came Jurassic Park, Walking Dead, Borderlands, and now Game of Thrones? I guess they made the big time, but I'm a little disappointed we're not getting sillier or fun adventure games like old-time LucasArts or Sierra games.Deponia looks pretty neat, anybody played that?

Check out Heroine's Quest and Primordia.

>>12491 Primordia's good shit, and so is Gemini Rue. I've also played the Blackwell series and Resonance, although I didn't like the multiple character mechanic they tried in the latter. Wadjet Eye Games have added quite a few new titles to their roster, so that's more to try out.
I'll check out Heroine's Quest, thanks. I remember leaving off of The Cat Lady last time, so I might go back to that one too sometime.

I know that feel OP, I'd love to see more Monkey Island games

>>12512 It's a shame adventure games are virtually dead. I miss games like Myst and King's Quest, and nothing really comes close to the humor of the old Sam & Max and MI games.
The fan games people have made for it are nice at least. The Silver Lining's been the most ambitious, but I preferred AGD Interactive's remakes for the most part. I'd still replay TSL for a lark.

How did you guys feel about some of the newer telltale games? IE Wolf Among Us, Walking Dead etc.
Anonymous 04/09/15 (Thu) 22:44:01 3a6c3c No. 12576
>>12575 I find them boring to be honest. The choices don't matter, most things aren't effected by your choice.
The games are more focused on the choices and"outcomes", instead of puzzles and exploring. I really enjoyed TellTale's Sam & Max games. It's a shame that now they are known for making choice simulators for tv shows.

>>12576 I really enjoyed the wolf among us, but I really enjoyed the fables comics as well. So obviously I'm a bit biased.
I do agree with you for the rest of them though, and even with the choices in a wolf among us.
There were no fail states, no pressures to choose one option over another. Just placidly forward plot movement, no matter your input.
So yeah.

>>12577 Didn't their Jurassic Park game have death scenes if you failed to get out of a QTE or something like that? I heard the game got panned something awful. And that reminds me, they also did Back to the Future. I played those games and didn't even remember.

>>12617 jurrassac park was awful because the quick times were so shittily done and it kinda felt like their first attempt at a walking dead esc game. Back to the future was basically more of a sam and max feel.
>>12575 WD season 1 was great
wolf among us was great up until the very very end,
walking dead season two was alright.
Borderlands game is ok better then the cucks games anyway
and the Game of thrones game is pretty good so far. I find the art style a little jarring but some of the moments so far are great. I enjoyed Britts guts out and toss his bowlcut ass of the wall.

>>12624 I guess I'll agree with you on the wolf among us.
I just loved all the characters so much.

>>12474 The Deponia series is great. Highly recommend. Rufus is basically Guybrush threepwood if Threepwood was a total asshole, had his kleptomania ramped up X10, and lived in a garbage filled planet. The only thing I didn't like about it were professor layton style minigames you had to do, and that they sometimes glitched out. Luckily you can skip all the minigames and glitches are only occasional and don't ruin the overall experience. You should play them in order, but my personal favorite is the third one.

>>12849 Holy fuck how have I never heard of daedalic entertainment. Their games look like lucasarts made shit that actually mattered.
Well Deponia and The Whispered World look good anyway, I'll have to check em out.

Anonymous 04/11/15 (Sat) 17:24:39 a36a2f No. 12972
I've bought a lot of these hoping to enjoy them as much as the old LucasArts games, but I never have. The writing just isn't as good, and the puzzles are contrived, and often little more than guesswork.
Anonymous 04/11/15 (Sat) 17:32:57 c7a759 No. 12974
>>12970 If you think you'll enjoy the world and the writing, I'd say yes. The writing and the main character in particular are a case of love it or hate it, so I'd actually recommend pirating it first to see if it works for you.
Saying that as a moralfag who very rarely pirates games.

>>12974 I'll do that thanks, do you think it's that way for all their games?
Anonymous 04/11/15 (Sat) 18:39:23 c7a759 No. 12984
>>12978 Not to the same degree, no. They learned from their mistakes after The Whispered World and their only notable game before that was Edna & Harvey: The Breakout, which is generally well-liked.

>peoples actually talking about Telltale glory days. So fucking yes, I had enough of TWD bullshit and it makes me so fucking mad when new generation of gamer will only know telltale for that. >dark and edgy tone. its normal in the 90's and kids can play a game the seems innocent artstyle but have a dark humor in it.
Anonymous 04/16/15 (Thu) 18:12:25 60e9c1 No. 14005
>>13511 Well, there's dark humour and then there's
Max turning into a Cthulhu lagomorph monster and sacrificing himself for the greater good, leaving Sam to wander the seedy streets in a serious bout of depression before he contemplates drowning himself Also
there's someone actually dying in a LucasArts game. Remember when that was a joke embedded in a puzzle in Monkey 3? Good times
