What are your thoughts on this?

I am amazed by the fact that this game just keeps on growing in features and content. It was already pretty solid when it launched.

Of all the things that The Awakening brings, I reckon Jewels will be the most interesting. With the new fortify buff I might even consider going melee.

A pretty big thing about the new expansion that might be of interest to those of you who've dropped PoE because of the desync issues:

"With the expansion we are adding a Deterministic Lockstep mode to Path of Exile that will have no desync. Bear in mind that this means that when you click you will have to wait for whatever your ping time is before you start to move or do a skill.

Not at all. They only thing that you can buy that in any way impact gameplay is stash tabs, but you start with four so it's not like you must have more, though I'd recommend it.

Stash tabs are only like $15 too. Coincidentally, by the time I had around 150 hours played I felt like buying more tabs would be nice and I'd already gotten my money's worth from the game. Even then, most of the shit I had in those tabs was junk selling for like 1alc/1co.

Jewels seem interesting but I'm mostly interested in the new act 4 content and how they're going to rebalance everything. The issue I've had with GGG and PoE is they take the DaS2 route to challenge, if it's not interesting make it hard.

I played from alpha to release and burned out. It's sad, too, cause I know how much new stuff there is but just don't have the motivation to sink another couple hundred hours into it.

Yea, I ended up buying a set of stash tabs after a few hundred hours just for convenience and so I could support development.
I am looking forward to the supposed desync fixes, will have to check it out again once the update hits.

So I tried to pick up this game at one point, and I remember the starting areas being so boring.

I rolled a Ranger, and I could absolutely devstate everything in the Flooded Depths with Rain of Arrows.

It just seemed so droll and tedious to play.

Does it get better? I assuem when you get out of the tutorial area the game opens up a bit?

Yeah, the game as a notoriously slow start.

But it does get better when you get some attack speed and linked up support gems. You also might want to switch out Rain of Arrows with Tornado Shot + multiple projectiles support if you are not sure what you are doing.

They also said that they want to rework the early stages of the game in their next expansion which should be released in the next one or two months, I think.

Okay cool. I was going to say, I got to the Prison as that Ranger and I was almost one-shotting everything. Just spam Rain of Arrows and Fire Arrow and lay waste. And not only that, but I could tank a ton of damage and it just got … boring.

You were in the first half of the first act of the first difficulty.

Things don't get] 'hard' till you reach act three, though it does get faster during act 2 once support gems make an appearance.
