I used to get all of my video game news from /v/, but with it's decline in quality and actual video game discussion, I'm forced to go outside of 8chan to find it. So maybe we can have a thread for our fellow anons that's a one-stop shop for vidya news we think is interesting? Of course this wouldn't get in the way of anyone wanting to make a thread about one specific piece of news and discussion it. I just propose we can use this thread, and if successful threads like it in the future, as a dumping ground for news we find.

I should say that it's a heavy metal album. I don't know what difference that makes.
>The Konami thing just sounds like a press release of not substance though.
Definitely but I figured the topic was newsworthy even if it's just to go 'Konami said nothing of value'.

Aren't all their PC releases Steam only? Figured they'd be better about that.

Yeah, I'm wondering if they plan on making it more metal or they simply wanted to clarify that it was going to be of a similar sound/style to the original.

Agreed, how else would they know? There's no point of them going with Desura though, as there's been a lot of talk about them not paying developers.

Nintendo had a Japan-only direct today. Mostly showing off already announced games and dated them. I'm going to assume the vast majority of people here don't give a shit about Japanese release dates.
New stuff:
Tobidasu! Nyanko Daisensou (3DS) port of a tower defence iOS game with cats (eShop only out now)
New Chibi-Robo for 3DS. There's a Chibi-Robo amiibo as well. (13m30s)
New Dr Mario (3DS) out now on eShop
Mario & Sanic at the special Olympics 2016 (Wii U and 3DS)
Monster Hunter Diary: Poka Poka Palico Village DX (3DS)
Monster Hunter X/Cross (3DS) 2015 (27m45s)
24,30 showed off a little bit of gameplay for Project Treasure (which had nothing at announcement) Disarming traps, fighting mummies and shit.

Completely fucked the pooch on supply. A lot of the ones that aren't Mario or Zelda are virtually impossible to buy for retail. A huge second hand market has sprung up of people taking advtange. Buying stock in bulk, selling at a markup. Selling these 13$ figures for 30-50 bucks a pop, sometimes 90 because people are so desperate to get them for whatever reason. Throw in that this has gone on for almost a year now and they keep adding more in-game content that's locked to amiibos, which most people can't get, and you get the shitstorm that's going down with all of that.
What I intitially meant with the Chibi-Robo comment was I'm going to assume he'll have the same problems. He'll have very small stock that sells out in minutes, if not seconds. The entirety of Amazon's stock of Robin and Lucina amiibos from Fire Emblem sold out in 6-10 seconds by the way. He'll probably fall into that trap of being too hard to get, and not worth the trouble.

>they keep adding more in-game content that's locked to amiibos, which most people can't get, and you get the shitstorm that's going down with all of that.
That's the one reason why I think amiibos are worse than general DLC. I wasn't sure if they had changed it (it's retarded) but they're unnecessarily limiting how many people get that content. Makes more sense to have both so people who just want the content can get it.
>The entirety of Amazon's stock of Robin and Lucina amiibos from Fire Emblem sold out in 6-10 seconds by the way.

Mirror's Edge Catalyst is officially announced for PS4, Xbone and PC
https://archive.is/PblJi
It basically announced yesterday on twitter and with the website being made.
>I’m excited to tell you that it’s paid off — by this time next week, you will have finally seen more of the game at E3.
>The team has spent a lot of time re-evaluating every aspect of the game and making it a new experience. This is not a sequel, this is not Mirror’s Edge 2. We have landed on a vision that honors the first game — pushing the boundaries of first person movement and diving deeper into the story behind our heroine Faith — but also brings a lot of great new, interesting gameplay and features to the experience for our players.
Also there's going to be an Xbone with more storage (the current one is getting a permanent price drop) and a redesigned controller.
>The new controller has a direct 3.5mm headset jack, an increase of the maximum audio for headsets, improved controller audio quality, and it works with all existing controller accessories. The bumpers have been fine-tuned to be more consistently good with performance, and the controller can now be updated wireless via new firmware updates (compared to the old one, which needed to be tethered).
>The new controller will be sold separately in black or camo silver/black color variations. A new $24.99 Xbox Wireless Adapter is coming to Windows this fall, which lets you wirelessly use your Xbox One controller with a Windows 10 PC.

XFire Client Closes
XFire has finally decided to shut down their game messenger client to pursue this "Tournament Platform" of theirs.
http://social.xfire.com/
I know a lot of you probably stopped using XFire a long time ago in favor of some other shit like Steam, but I never stopped. It was always a nice tool for talking to friends in games or just seeing what they were playing.
I'm really going to miss it.
I never switched to Steam because I fucking loath the DRM and its business practices, but I guess I'll probably try out GOG Galaxy at some point.
I would still much rather have a game-oriented messaging client of the sort like XFire that isn't administered by a game retailer; it just feels too close for comfort.

>The line "Acquisti in-game opzionali," which roughly translates to "optional in-game purchases," confirms suspicions first raised by a few recent previews of The Phantom Pain.
>At one point in The Phantom Pain demo, according to Otero, attempting to speed up development on Mother Base resulted in the following prompt: "Reduced time features cannot be used in offline mode."
>The Phantom Pain uses the same in-game currency system as Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, called Gross Military Product, or GMP. Similar to Peace Walker, GMP is used in The Phantom Pain to build up your base.
>Speculation says that the PSN requirement, combined with the reveal of "optional in-game purchases" on the game's store page, could indicate the use of real money for certain features relating to Mother Base, like buying GMP, but nothing has officially been confirmed by Konami.

Nintendo's next home console Metroid Prime game will now likely not release until the company has launched its next-generation console, codenamed NX.
https://archive.is/UlEGN
>"If we started for Wii U now, it would likely take three years or so. So it would likely now be on Nintendo's NX console," [Kensuke Tanabe] said.
>"It's a long time but it would need to include a lot of content, which would take a lot of work on the development side."
>"I'm the producer of the Metroid Prime series, and [Metroid series co-creator] Yoshio Sakamoto is the one in charge of Metroid itself. I'm not sure when he's planning on making such an announcement so I can't speak for him.
>"I'm not thinking about anything like that [partnering with another studio] right now. We have nothing to announce on working with any specific team."
>This all points to Wii U not seeing a new Metroid Prime (or just Metroid), which is a shame, as the GamePad screen could make for an ingenious way of scanning enemies or items on screen.
>"It is a great idea, I agree. Truth be told, making HD games takes a lot of time and resources," Tanabe concluded when asked why Nintendo had not made a Metroid Prime for Wii U. "I haven't been able to collect a team or the resources to do it."
