>Started playing Tales series some years back.
>Surprisingly enough for a JRPG series, they have multiplayer co-op as a combat option.
>Decide to try to rope a friend in for it, even though I'd never seen him play JRPGs much, if ever.
>Surprisingly enjoyable time for both of us (in addition to the games being fun, being able to play something that lengthy with a friend adds another dimension to the enjoyment the game offers, especially if you like to poke fun at various plot elements or speculate about what's going to happen next).
>Currently played seven of the games together and it's now something of a favorite for both of us.
To be fair, it's not like he dislikes JRPGs (I simply hadn't heard him bring them up that much, for better or worse), but I was surprised by how much he started enjoying the series. Even some I thought he might not like, like Tales of the Abyss, considering how much that one tends to divide the fan base.
Also been trying to get him into some other ones I've come to enjoy, like Wild Arms.

I used to be like that myself, though mainly due to not having a lot of access to games or money for games growing up, so when I found something I liked I stuck with it and mainly it as far as what I went out and bought to play. With Pokemon you can at least really get your money's worth (I recall having at least 250 hours in Emerald back in the day, between the main game, Battle Frontier, and breeding and training Pokemon for said Battle Frontier). I'd say it was actually thanks to a friend I started to branch out some when I started getting better access to money and games. /v/ and other boards have helped out with that as well, to be fair.
