Am I the only one that likes the designs of Spiral Knights? It's a shame the gameplay's kinda subpar, but I could survive it for all the eyecandy.

13afd2 No.15016

I've never played it. What's it like OP?

13ec42 No.15023

I was briefly very interested when I first saw the promo art, which I loved. Then I found out what kind of game it actually is, and nope. No amount of art direction is gonna sell me on that. Plus, the actual in-game graphics didn't really carry the charm of the illustrations anyway.

That very first trailer for Wild Star was pretty much the same story.

351900 No.15026

You're not alone OP. I kept playing the game to collect neat looking equipment. In the end I learned that a continuous chain of wanting things only leads to burnout and a sense of wasting my life.

The game used to be pretty limiting, explicitly wanting to milk you dry, but with the, now a bit older update the game gave you more freedom, meaning it doesn't center itself around energy.

Haven't played it since Halloween last year. Stopped around the slime boss I think. The game is still pretty shit thanks to artificially slowing the progress via drops which you need to upgrade your equipment. But I guess it's just because I soloed it mostly because it probably used to be more populated back during its limited energy time. You could find a room with 4 people easily anytime. Now when I played a year ago I could never find someone who would run missions with me. Seriously no one.

Otherwise it's a pretty comfy game, soundtrack is comfy and the artstyle isn't a clusterfuck and generally looks nice.

Holy christ what?

Last time i played, the gameplay was horrible. How do yous tand it just because it has good graphics?

I found it enjoyable personally, but it got old really fast.

565467 No.15085

The gameplay was fine, like a mix of LoZ four swords with short ranged guns and bombs.

The major problem was all the equipment and energy crap that was forced onto the game in the beginning. It barred progress till you grinded everything you needed for new gear.

The art style is still cute and appealing

627c4e No.15097

The graphics style drew me in.

The mass unlocking areas thing made me hesitant.

The energy bullcrap drove me away.

fed30e No.15131

As someone who has already sunk far too much time into this game, I can tell you that as it is, it's shit.

When they removed energy from the game, for some reason they also changed pretty much all the teamwork related mechanics. There's really not that much interaction with your team now, since you can't trade capsules or revive each other.

Also, it's had about one real update in the past year or so.

It's a shame too, because I think they have really good boss design.

482163 No.15132

Ian Mcconville is a fucking genius, yes

>the gameplay's kinda subpar

The gameplay is a joke

Bugs and ping make it worse still

b8d980 No.15140

I hate the designs. Too colorful and cartoonish. Looks like a kid's game.

>>15016

grindfest f2p rpg

27496b No.15166

I love the visual design and the general idea of the game but there are a lot of turnoffs too. Mostly not having servers in oceania.

627c4e No.15167

>>15140

Wasn't it?

7be8ad No.15183

Even the drops are no longer shared, it's all random and every team member has to individually pick up coins and heat instead of one guy picking it up and all four members getting the same amount of loot.

The true downfall of the game was the content, there was barely any of it after your first full(1-30) run. No new bosses, monsters, weapons, difficulty, nothing. Just a sealed core that has been teasing you forever.

1143c5 No.15200

>>14985

It's a fancy shell with an empty core. Game has little content, specially in the end and removing the fatigue system made it more evident. All the devs do now is to make more costumes for the "players" to play dress-up with.

In other words, game is kill.

9854f9 No.15735

>>15200

Technically the core is full of yummies, but you can't get to it.

a25d46 No.15818

>>15016

It's a top-down view action combat game that kind of resembles old school LoZ/Mana series combat.

It's really fun and great with friends, but it gets incredibly grindy.

fad37c No.15891

The design in Spiral Knights is the best fucking thing in the game.

Too bad the game kinda sucks and there are no updates.
