With the recent release of the second Mario Kart 8 DLC and 200cc update, I've been hankering to talk about it with some folk. Unfortunately Mario Kart /v/eekend threads are dead on 8chan /v/ and no way in hell am I retreating to 4chan. What are your impressions on the incredibly hectic 200cc, and how are you enjoying the new content?

Personally I find this pack to be better than the last and think that all 3 characters are amazing. I thought Dry Bowser to be un-interesting and bland when announced but seeing him in action with his really cool animations and model made me choose a new heavy main. My favorite track is split between Baby Park (200cc), Big Blue, and Animal Crossing.

529e0f No.15553

Haven't had the chance to download it all yet, but I've liked what I've seen so far with the first wave of DLC they had already released. With this new pack, I think Nintendo hit a pretty decent sweet spot between bringing back past courses (with redesigns, though) and adding in new ones.

Not sure I'd necessarily want to see a full "Nintendo Kart" in the near future, but the Animal Crossing content definitely seems to fit in well. The only other DLC I'd want to see for MK8 for certain would be one for Kirby, even if it's just him riding a single type of vehicle (the Warp Star) like he did in the Rosalina trailer for Smash.

I don't have a wiiu so I don't understand what this 200cc thing I keep hearing about is.

It is a new top speed, frantically fast and requiring some serious break and drift skill. Pretty fun but damn it takes some getting used to.

7f0f79 No.15562

>>15556

Like a permanent mushroom speed or what?

16f2f5 No.15565

>>15562

To be honest, around that range. Slightly slower but it sure feels about that speed.

enough to make several jumps that usually have to be item assisted without them.

I'm really loving all of the new DLC content. I can't comment on the 200cc yet because honestly, I suck at this game and have only gotten a couple of three star golds on 150cc tracks.

I'm a huge fan of Animal Crossing, and just about everything done on their end is fantastic. Isabelle on the city tripper may be my new go to along with Donkey Kong and Rosalina. I also love the new Mii racing suits, so now I can finally pretend Mega Man got into Mario Kart. All the new tracks are well designed too in my opinion. Big Blue is fast and hype as fuck, but not overwhelming even for someone like me who's skill isn't the best.

OP's gif gives me a funny feeling in my pants. I like it.

>I suck at this game and have only gotten a couple of three star golds on 150cc tracks

You're actually moderately good at the game if you've recieved any 3 stars on 150cc. Usually one of the biggest problems with grands prix (and Mario Kart's AI all together) is that the AI rubberbands and if you're doing too well then they reach a skill level that no human can reach. They'll wail you with perfectly aimed green shells and hit you with 3 red shells to make sure you're stalled until 12th place. It's honestly the biggest design flaw with the game aside from the base roster.

I probably should've done this in the OP message, but before someone asks for questions of source; the artist's name is Minus8 or -8. He's done several images for MK8's DLC and even has singular images of the shy-gals I'm fairly certain. Hips and thighs are truly a miracle of the universe.

Here's a taste of what he does and other nonsensical shilling.

Oh shit, really? I knew about the artificial difficulty bit in advanced Mario Kart. I just assumed I was still shit because I never cracked all of 150cc, and the few times I raced in /v/eekend threads before the exodus I never broke past 7th place.

>>15615

IIRC he did that when the DLC was first announced, for all the different colors of Shy Guy and Yoshis you'd get for buying the bundle. Still a really cool bonus for people who did that, I think. I loved playing with the different color swaps for both.

Despite people sometimes saying

>it's okay when Nintendo does it!

I feel like they did the DLC pretty good this time around. 12 bucks for 16 tracks is kind of reasonable to me, and you get some neato characters that you may like. They seem to at least charge a more fair price for the content you get whenever they do DLC. Compared to other companies who charge 15 bucks for no content, it's a bit of a nice change.

3be14a No.15661

>>15660

For Australians it was $16 for all the tracks.

Which for me was still reasonable as fuck especially considering it came with new karts, characters and more importantly multi-coloured shy-guys. Even if it was $16 for only tracks I'd still be happy $1/track at the quality we are receiving is fucking excellent. Especially considering some of my new favourite tracks are these DLC tracks.

Do I want to see more? Not really. I feel like this is enough expansion. I'd rather just see free updates to add more custom game options.

On the topic of "It's alright when Nintendo does it" It's not about who is doing it. It's about how it's being done. People will be in support of Nintendo DLC as long as it's reasonable. "It's alright when Nintendo does it" is among the worst shitposting on /v/ right now. Most other shitposting is just off-topic trash but this example is literally against good customer service.

03e719 No.15664

>>15660

A bit off topic but since you brought up the 'It's okay when Nintendo does it!'. I feel like that's an empty phrase now. The idea behind it's origin can still be valid, but on /v/ both here and halfchan, I don't see people adamantly defending Nintendo when they make bad calls. But you do always see some idiot post that in almost any thread about Nintendo, and it's early on too. It became self-defeating and got rid of the entire point of it.

d11e7a No.15666

>>15662

>>15664

To be fair it feels like almost anything on /v/ is shitposting at this point. There was a reason this board was made after all.

Yeah you generally don't see a 'Nintendo defense force' like they seem to claim. Everyone was about as dissappointed with the recent Direct as everyone else.

Back on topic though, with the inclusion of other game's characters and the… Relatively lacking roster in this game at launch, I've been coming to the conclusion that taking an almost Smash Bros approach to a Mario Kart could be neat. You'd have a great roster of just random ass Nintendo characters which then lets you make courses with ANY franchise in mind. Blowing through Hyrule Fields on one track and the next one you're going underground in Zebes. Would be it silly? Definitely, but it could be fun as fuck pulling in so much shit from other Nintendo IP's.

3be14a No.15667

>>15666

I'm not sure I'd be happy with it become Smash Kart. As long as the characters they introduce in DLC match aesthetic I wouldn't mind but part of what I love about Mario Kart is the aesthetic style.

It's all distinctly Mario. What Mario lacks in character variety it has always made up for in environment and charm. Mixing it up too much would risk to damage that.

The only characters I could see them safely adding are Kirby and maybe MegaMan. I'm not even a fan of Link's inclusion. They should've used toon-link

03e719 No.15668

>>15666

I've been clamoring for a Smash Kart for a long time, so I'd love it if they moved to that direction. Though I think a possible Smash Kart would be best as it's own game, rather than changing Mario Kart into that. I could see a possible Smash Kart being a bit of a middle ground between MK and F-Zero if they brought that back.

I do really hope Metroid gets a pack in the future. I don't know what else. A Donkey Kong pack that finallys back Diddy and Funky?

145d25 No.15675

>>15668

If they release another DLC pack I'm expecting a playable Captain Falcon. It would make sense, after adding two F-Zero courses.

3be14a No.15682

>>15675

I can't imagine a playable Captain Falcon, it just wouldn't fit the artsyle. I'd prefer they didn't do that.

I've been making do with a Captain Falcon Mii in Blue Falcon.

How exactly does one do well in 200cc? Even when breaking, I feel like everyone is able to do everything at a much faster rate.

bfe3a0 No.16402

>>16279

200cc is really interesting, because it requires such a different approach from all the standard modes. Drifting is enormously unsafe most of the time, and it's often much safer to just make short hops to take sharp corners. Releasing the accelerator or even braking is advisable in places, which is something I've NEVER had to do in regular Mario Kart.

Additionally, the added speed opens up new shortcuts that didn't exist previously. It's possible to make some jumps that would normally require a mushroom just using your normal momentum.

People are still figuring out how to play 200cc, but so far it's a blast. You basically have to relearn every track.
