The lastest Hotline Miami discussion thread took place when the HM2 wasn't released yet. So I think it's safe to begin a new one.

Do you think HM2 was as great as the first? Which is your favourite character?

Do you have plans for the upcoming editor? Have you tried to edit the .wad files of the HM2?

I liked the second one just as much as the first one. I don't mind that the combat was ranged focused this time around.

But still, the writer was my fav character. I love how he emptied any weapon on pickup.

I doubt that I will pick it up again once the editor is out.

I agree, the Writer has the most interesting playstyle

I personally can't wait for the editor, instead

HM2 was pretty shitty compared to the first one.

being forced to kite enemies all the time was just not fun at all, probably only level done right was the apartment level.

I enjoyed the new variety and forced limitations on characters. It really forced me to vary my playstyle compared to HM1 where I just kept using the same two masks for everything.

I also enjoyed all the little tidbits and how the story went from obnoxiously self-aware to understandable. All the stories at least provided context for all the ultraviolence and I actually cared about the characters.

Eventually though I realized that the only real way to play through the game was to shoot entire mags down blind hallways, shoot entire mags down blind windows, and use gunshots to bait people to doors so you can stab them all to death at once. It sucked a lot of the fun out of the game.

Loved the first, patient master race on the second and it looked to not be as good, so didn't buy it.

I wonder if, with the editor, we will get a set of "rewritten" levels to accomodate this issue.

I was doubtful of Hotline Miami being any good from the looks of it but after seeing more gameplay its got me interesting. I am thinking of going straight to HM 2, will I be missing anything significant?

Got me interested*

You will be missing the significantly better game. Play the first.

Allright I'll play both.

A piece of information on the HM2 custom campaign I will (hopefully) work on:

Here is the Colombian, a reskin of the Henchman that story-wise will be affiliated to the Colombian Gang. The pants are still white because the legs sprites are taken from another resource, I still need to see if it's better to reskin the pants too or not, as they might create issues in another place

c04881 No.15951

Reskinning characters sometimes is quite annoying, but hopefully worth

>Thinking the level editor will be anything more than a level editor

Oh anon

HM2 has more intense level design, but much like Doom 2 it misses the main gameplay point of the original: too much open space, which forces player to use corner traps.

Too bad they messed up the unlockables. (e.g. some you can't use some weapons or masks on some levels)

First HM feels better.

Well it is possible, you just can't do it right off the Editor because of the copyright issues. I'm sure someone will mod the editor around so much it's possible to have any character go against anyone and whatever music you want for levels.

9b2ea1 No.16701

>>16699

Custom music and graphics is already possible, by editing the .wad file. Replacements, but better than nothing.

If HM2 has robust engine, it will get the living crap modded out of it. This is reason enough to obtain it legally when the editor is out.

As fart as I saw, many of the bugs are fixed. We need to see if the editor update will create new ones.

Have you already read the Dennaton blog post about the level editor?

it's here: >>16634

Bumpan with this tweet, apparently sprite editor is on its way.

Tell you the truth, I couldn't care less, I'd still prefer to edit the .wad file

So I played the first HM and now I am playing the second one. I've been really enjoying these games so far, they've been really good so far, seems I was utterly wrong when I thought these games weren't good because they're very enjoyable.

So far I am liking the second game compared to the first because you have different play styles which force you to play in a different way compared to the first where I only used Brandon's mask since most of the other masks were pretty filler. Good to know that the second one has a hard mode because the first one was way too easy.

I think the only problem I kind of had with the second one was it being more ranged. The first game's levels had been made a lot more "tighter" and allowed much more better melee combat while the second game's levels were a lot more open and focused on getting rid of enemies from a further distance and relied on baiting the enemies towards you to kill them (Which I found to be quite fun).

Overall though I am liking the Second game a bit more than the first. The soundtrack is really good as well, especially Roller Mobster.
