/svidya/ is a strict /v/ alternative for moderated vidya discussion. This Board wasn't intended to replace /v/ but to aid Anon's in having vidya discussions with zero shitposters. Thanks for adding /svidya/ to /v/'s recommended boards, Mark.

I've always liked when new mechanics are introduced into games, as long as they were thought out beforehand.

What are your favorite mechanics, /svidya/?

Also I'm thinking of making a C# library for others to use that would mimic how languages and ideas changed over time. Thoughts?

Procedural divergence, as long as it's batshit insane and complex enough. Complex enough to tweak, insane enough to remain interesting.

It's the only reason I've stuck to GS games for all these years, even past Jewadox's bullshit. There's something about MechaByzantium that makes me giggle every single goddamned time.

I hear ya. GS are pretty neat, but a lot of time I got frustrated with the whole "unaccepted culture" mechanic of EU4. It seemed a little unnatural.

I like being able to change terrain, raising it, lowering it, making it a different kind of terrain, that kind of stuff.

I'd like a time stop mechanic which is balanced along with some DMC like gameplay. I was playing JoJo HTF and whenever DIO uses his time stop ability in the game I'd honestly like to see a mechanic where you can stop time in a similar way but not make it utterly broken which allows you to go through the game quite easily.

Time/gravity control mechanics are always some of the most enjoyable to me.

Trine 2 has an ability for Zoya to shoot low gravity arrows which create a zone where gravity is lower, it's infinitely fun to mess around with.

I like any mechanics that make movement faster/more interesting. Things like rocket jumping, bunny hopping, etc. Really adds a lot to a game when there's more to getting around than "hold W". Unless it's something like The Minish Cap where you're constantly listening to Link shrieking as he rolls everywhere.

What are some great mechanincs introduced in games that were otherwise shit? Can be little things or main features.

I think the only way to not make it OP would be to limit its use and/or limit room for error when using it. I'd play the fuck out of that though.

I like time travel mechanics in general. I was hoping Life Is Strange would work the time reversal well but it does all of these small things that annoy me. Mostly the usual mistakes you get in those sort of games.
