If you donated to the Infinity Dev. Group over Flattr, it seems that they have turned into a scam and you should charge these conmen back immediately by contacting your financial institution. (I realize this includes my support key. I don't give a shit, flood their insecure bullshit report ticket in my name. I see no other way to prove it.) Reports are that they lost their PayPal account recently, and Flattr CEO and only employee @bonq is ignoring all communication from me via their ticket system and Twitter. The icing on the cake is that they blocked me and three others for asking where the fuck 46.74 EUR went.

So I just finished this game and I was really pleasantly surprised with it. YES, it has dumb ass enemy checkpoint respawn rates. YES, it has laugh out loud bad voice acting. Look past that and you might enjoy the experience. I had installed it a couple of times in the past and the spawn issue always turned me off.

Reinstalled it again after watching embed related . This time however, I faced that design flaw as a challenge. In fact, I faced EVERY single thing the game threw at me, including things that might be considered "unfair", "bullshit", "poor design". I had a blast. Gun jamming, awesome weapons, constant reminders that you are not an action hero and very vulnerable, the fire system, the collectibles. All combined into a very cool experience.

I found the story boring in the first part and, to a lesser extent, throughout the meat of the game. By the end though, it really picked up and wrapped up in a cool and honestly unexpected way ( I won't spoil it here but if some anon asks me to I can go into greater details).

Anyway right now it's my favourite Far Cry installment.

Thoughts? I'd like to get a discussion going and get a thread on /svidya/ that doesn't die immediatly.

After playing with Far cry 4,you could say Far cry 2 is somehow better, less story driven, more choices between , and somehow I think the whole malaria thing fair, although you get that horseshit med everytime and then.

I just don't prefer Far cry 4 because the dev enforces you to be the "good guy" of the game.

Farcry 2 is a real flawed gem

It has many flaws like you said, but it also does many things right.

And The Jackal is one of my favourite characters, I don't think any video game ever had the balls to describe Africa as accurately as this game and this particular character did.

6c20ac No.15948

>>15932

I actually found The Jackal a more interesting character than Vaas for Far Cry 3. Yes, Michael Mando had a excellent performance and he made the cutscenes more memorable, but if The Jackal was better voice acted ( I can't put my finger on was is off, it's like he speeds up for a while then pauses, so unnatural), he would be a much more memorable character.

There's nothing wrong with enjoying FC2, but it honestly wasn't a good game. It was a tech demo with some ill-concieved game mechanics slapped on. Maybe if they had put in another year of hard work it could've been great.

6c20ac No.15959

>>15957

well can you provide examples? also

> ill-concieved game mechanics slapped on

i find that to be an overstatement. see embed related. Yes you can say that we don't know if the game mechanics were intended to portray a hostile environment, but the fact is that it worked, at least in my and embed related's opinion.

>Maybe if they had put in another year of hard work it could've been great.

That can be said about any game

>>15948

Well the game tentatively hints that he has terminal cancer so perhaps he's rattling away like a man that feels the need to wring all he can from every single moment.

6c20ac No.15978

>>15970

That would actually make sense… if not for the fact that every character in the game speaks in the same weird fashion…

fc21df No.15991

>>15978

I guess that means Africa is cancer, doesn't it? Well played devs, well played…

>hilariously fast weapon deterioration you can't reverse

>checkpoints, everyone wants to kill you

>all cars are the same

>fucking malaria

>killing empty trucks that drive aimlessly for the arms dealer

>huge, dead world with nothing to do in it

>your actions have no impact on the world

>weird buddy system that you have to reset every time

>useless fast travel

>powerless guns

The list could go on

I don't care much about Far Cry 3 and 4, but they pretty much are FC2 with more work put into it. They dropped most of the bad stuff from 2 and added fun.

>hilariously fast weapon deterioration you can't reverse

That's the whole point of the Jackal, he sells shitty guns.

>checkpoints, everyone wants to kill you

yep that's broken can't argue with that

>all cars are the same

what did you except a fucking lamborghini dealership in that shithole?

>fucking malaria

it's really not as bad as people say in my opinion… a side quest every 5 or 6 missions?

>killing empty trucks that drive aimlessly for the arms dealer

yea those can get repetitive although trying to do them with completely different sets of guns helped ease the monotony of those

>huge, dead world with nothing to do in it

I guess, if you don't count the 3 sets of collectibles.

>your actions have no impact on the world

Well besides checkpoints (which are mentioned above) the same could be said for 3

>weird buddy system that you have to reset every time

I will also agree with that, the buddy system could have been worked on

>useless fast travel

HIGHLY disagree with that, in fact fast travel is essential

>powerless guns

AR-16, Grenade Launcher, AS50, USAS, RPGs, Secondary Grenade Launcher, IED… everything but powerless for me. In fact, after unlocking the grenade launcher the only thing I had to worry about was killing myself.

I don't think it was bad. But it sure didn't let play how you wanted too. Stealth never worked, so one aspect of the freeform mechanics never worked out. Other than that I don't see the point of playing FC2 when STALKER did everything it did and better.

fc21df No.16064

>>16045

Stealth did work actually, it's just that it was handled brutally realistic (much like STALKER actually) and hence wasn't a matter of ghosting everybody as much as killing them off one by one before you inevitably get discovered

>did everything better

>everything

Now I love STALKER don't get me wrong but it didn't do everything better.

6c20ac No.16067

>>16045

Hmm… I still think it's worth playing just for the uncommon setting in these types of games and the cool ass weapons I wish were in more games (G3 and that first sniper rifle were awesome). But yea I also prefer S.T.A.L.K.E.R.. Different games though.

3f5390 No.16069

One way to put it is that Far Cry 2 is more survival horror than action/adventure. On the surface it looks like the latter, so people are disappointed when they get the wrong kind of "fun" they expected.

The comparison with STALKER is a good one, and it's much better critique to hold one up to the other rather than judge Far Cry 2 by its sequels' merits.

I think one of the worse things about this hand-holding permanent easy mode new games have is that not only it makes all games play like the same generic boring bullshit but it also sucks the fun of old-school hard games making them incredibly frustrating to play

I had that problem with the new GTAs, now the old ones are unbearable to play, the very idea of having to start a mission from the very beginning (all the way to driving back to the starting point) rather than having serveral checkpoints along the way that you magically start-over from its a pain in the ass

But Far Cry 1 is pretty awful

It wasn't as much of a game as it was a techdemo for the CryEngine

f03643 No.16668

>>15894

Well, Far Cry 2 had the best atmosphere : enjoying the beautiful landscapes of Africa :savannahs, deserts, jungles, mountains, lakes, mangroves during a sunset

I remember that videogame reviewers criticized the enemy checkpoint system, that every checkpoint respawns its enemies in less than 2 minutes, but in my opinion it turned the game into a sandbox full of stupid IA to eliminate in the most various possible ways,so I stopped to pllay the campaign just before the last mission.

Wildlife was pretty bad (animals made of foam), but it wasn't a part of the gameplay, it was just pure decoration.

By the way, the game felt easy, even when playing on the hardest difficulty, because basically you just had to headshot everybody with the silenced MP5.
