>Where can I get it?

It came out in 2003, pirate or buy from GOG.

>What is it?

CRPG. The strongest part of the game is its combat and character creation, easily allowing dozens of playthroughs over the years if you like this formula.

>Circle of Eight Modpack

The vanilla game was still amazing, and one of the reasons it can still stand the test of time, because unlike games like skyrim which depend on mods to change the game, this uses a mod to fix vanilla game bugs (bugs were plentiful in the vanilla game) and add new content almost tripling the size of the game. There are two versions of the mod, one that only fixes bugs and adds minimal new content, and one that is the same with all added new content on top, if you're a purist. The modders are very loyal to the lore and making it all fit in, I do believe they made all of the new modules based on existing DnD stories. Use the following link for complete instructions after you have the vanilla game.

Oh and by the way. Over a decade after the game released, with the co8 modders trying to reverse engine a new game engine for the game and supporting the modpack, there has been a happening.

One of the many CRPGs on my backlog that I haven't made any time for unfortunately. How's the story and characters?

0c459f No.15920

>>15919

There are a handful of characters you would like. I honestly get so wrapped up in the combat that story takes a back seat.

The temple of elemental evil was what it's name described it as, and was sealed and pretty much abandoned after the battle of emrydie meadows. In the game, you start investigating a moathouse and eventually find the temple and it's not as abandoned as thought, so you end up delving into it and slay evil.

The NC content (highly advised) has been sectioned off to start after the end of the vanilla portion of the game, and is properly leveled for your party.

Vanilla = level 1-10/11

NC = level 10-20

People found the TOEE level editor.

0c459f No.15963

>>15962

It's in the op.

I checked on co8 and the modders are saying they knew about it but couldn't disclose it due to possible legal reasons. The tools they have already to mod the game are in general better, so this isn't as big of a deal as thought.

Ah, fuck, I'm too tired for this.

>The tools they have already to mod the game are in general better

Are they really? I was assuming making this tools took a lot of work and there way no way they had figured out everything. If that's true this whole thing is rather disappointing.

0c459f No.15966

I'm not one of the modders, but they have their own toolset to mod the game that they developed IIRC, and has been the backbone of what was allowing them to mod the game for the last decade. This "official" editor has a few things that work better such as enemy placement, but is very volatile like the vanilla game.

The difficulty level is great if you're looking for a challenge, but it gets in the way when I want to roleplay via character creation. I just can't comfortably squeeze through the first dungeons with a crappy party.

>>15972

No worries there anon, go find Elmo or Fruella and let them keep you alive through the moathouse. They're there for that purpose. Once you reach nulb, you should be able to handle yourself (level 4 range).

Also at lower levels, make use of every buff to AC you can, because it matters a ton when you're that weak.

Portrait pack upload?

I only have these four and you're gonna have to set up the data stuff yourself. Reuse the colored images for the black and white ones.

Now I kind of want to make a typemoon portrait pack for a playthrough.

>CRPG

… "Classic" RPG?

0c459f No.15983

>>15982

I think of it as computer role playing game but considering how many computer games there are now, it makes more sense to stand for "Classic" role playing game, being that it derives its game mechanics from pnp games and has dicerolls doing the math behind the scene.

b4e285 No.15986

>>15983

>being that it derives its game mechanics from pnp games and has dicerolls doing the math behind the scene.

And other RPGs don't? This term is retarded.

0c459f No.15987

>>15986

I didn't invent the term, but it describes a type of game that people who have played them recognize under that term.

Is Exile: Escape from the Pit a "CRPG"?

>>15989

I haven't played that game.

b4e285 No.15992

Well I've played it and I have no idea. Retarded term is retarded.

465958 No.16005

You could say it's "Classic" as in "in the vein of classic RPGs like Baldur's Gate"? Nowadays you need Kickstarter to get an RPG that isn't Bioware-style shit.

0c459f No.16198

What party builds do you play as?

I just build a new party for a new playthrough.

-Dedicated ranger (composite bow)

-Rogue with 3 levels of paladin (party front, fear immune, damage output late game)

-Dedicated wizard (crafting is amazing in this game)

-Dedicated fighter

As a tip to people new to the game, when you start your first playthrough, just take an hour or so to explore Hommlett entirely, talk to everyone, and do all of the fed-ex quests there to get free experience. Elmo, Furnok, and Fruella are all placed in town specifically for people who are having trouble at the game, recruit them if you need to. And do welkwood bog and deklo grove before you go to the moathouse for an extra level.

While the fedex XP is useful, I don't think the flavor of microwaveable D&D adventure is to everyone's taste.

0c459f No.16215

>>16214

It really picks up once you do the moathouse and reach the temple.

And post zuggy, hickory branch and verbo quests are fucking intense.
