/svidya/ is a strict /v/ alternative for moderated vidya discussion. This Board wasn't intended to replace /v/ but to aid Anon's in having vidya discussions with zero shitposters. Thanks for adding /svidya/ to /v/'s recommended boards, Mark.

Let's talk Yooka-Layley. The kickstarter is tomorrow, so we'll have plenty to talk about soon enough, but right now we finally have the names and promotion images of them.

What are you excited for?

What are you nervous about?

Are you going to donate?

Would you like Playtonic to work close with Nintendo again?

Found that I still had these from earlier in the year.

I can't wait for the big gender reveal of the characters.

That's totally what I care about in a video game.

I'm literally throwing money at the screen lol.

Anon, I am sorry. I love Banjo, but a fool and his money are soon parted.

A key difference is that Playtonic has a lot of the big guys from Rare. They're actual developers, not businessmen.

Thanks for this

Excited to see the game mechanics mostly. Hoping it's a modern iteration of a collectahon, I don't want to be hunting 100s of items without some sort of guidance/log system, but that's just me.

Might donate to Kickstarter, generally cautious of it. I'd rather developers get proper funding and don't put all the risk in enthusiasts hands, but accept that's not always possible.

I avoided Double Fine, I avoided Mighty 9, I avoided Wasteland 2 (Although that wasn't nearly as terrible as the previous 2. It just turned out to be okay, nothing spectacular). Yet Rare was my god damn childhood, Rare made some of my most favorite games of all time. The potential is here and I know it can be fucked up but my god do I want this to happen.

At least there is some good news and it looks far less bleaker.

>They're actual developers, not businessmen.

Is that why they're pulling the old "gib us lots of money and you can voice a character" card? They're not doing it for the money they can extort from gullible furries but instead because they're good developers?

Yeah, nah. Rare is dead, as is anyone's childhood who wears a fucking rose-tinted welder's mask.

3dfe8e No.16032

It's got forty-six days to go and it's been funded by over 300%. This is going to be the new big funded disappointment.

And do you have anything to back that up? Because as it stands you're just being dismissive and ignoring the facts of what we've been presented in order to go with a classic /v/ route of 'it sucks because I said so.'

They've been working on it for 3 months, they already said they can make the game. It'll happen either way. The entire point of the kickstarter is to expand the game, make it even more than they were planning on, and let fans get involved in it.

>Hey, I wrote some LucasArts Adventure games.

>Hey, we made the Engine for Total Annihilation.

>Hey, I made Mega Man.

>Hey, we made Banjo Kazooie.

If it turns out good I'll happily buy it, but I'm not gonna back it. By the looks of it they won't need my money anyway.

They were funded in an hour and are already over $725k. It's definitely going to be up there with Broken Age and Mn9.

>A key difference is that

If you hear this when talking about a Kickstarter or Early Access. Run. Run and don't look back until the game is a month after release. If the hype that held it up hasn't caused the game to collapse, then perhaps it's worth your time and money.

>they were funded in an hour and are just about to break a million bucks

You run and never look back. Period.

5eeaed No.16071

I don't really see the dilemma here. It's already funded, so just wait until it comes out and if it's good, buy it. If it's not, don't. They hit pretty much every stretch goal that's worth hitting, so the only reason to donate now would be to preorder, which is for plebs.

>They hit pretty much every stretch goal that's worth hitting

I'm a sucker for creator commentaries but the chances of them not getting another £100k is zero.

Just released I've been using dollar symbols instead of pounds. My bad.

I don't have money to throw at them, but I'm being cautiously optimistic about this. I seriously think that this can go somewhere, but last time I got seriously burned preordering BL2 and I don't want to repeat the same mistake.

bf7031 No.16137

>>16136

I'm trying not to get too hyped for it, because Kickstarter is a crapshoot. That isn't always the case though. Personally Shovel Knight was one of my favorite platformers from the past year, and they seem on track to deliver what they promised with the DLC. But I'm a huge flamming Rare fanboy so I donated anyway even though I might get fucked.

7cd0e7 No.16138

>>16137

I'm a Rare fanboy too, and I'm in the same boat except it's with Freedom Planet instead of Shovel Knight. How is it by the way?

bf7031 No.16142

>>16138

It has some flaws, but it's a really damn good retro platformer. It was made by a team of 4, and you can feel the love in all the details. Highly recommend trying it out. I'd say it's around Mega Man 2 or 3 difficulty wise. Not extremely hard on normal, but can be challenging at times.

All the bosses are fun as fuck too.
